Summer Tires Recommendation

Summer Tires Recommendation
I know ... "yet another tire thread" ... but honestly, I spent the past few days going through various search results in this forum without a concrete answer on this.
My '09 came with Yokohama ADVAN A10F that have ~30% tread left after ~20k miles. Seeing the number of recommendations for Continental ExtremeContact DWS and Michelin Pilot Sports A/S Plus, I was thinking of going with the Continental if it's available, with the Michelin as the fall-back.
Then I read http://www.insideline.com/features/t...vs-summer.html and realized that I never, ever drive on snow or ice. Here in northern California, I deal with a few weeks of rain, but mostly dry pavement. According to the article, summer tires actually are optimal in these conditions, beating even all-season tires.
So I started looking for summer tires that provide a smooth ride with good handling and tread life. From TireRack:
* Continental ExtremeContact DW seems to be a great option for the price.
* Michelin Pilot Sport 3 comes with low-rolling-resistance, but also adds $140 per tire at slightly less tread-life; it's also new without any reviews.
* Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 is slightly cheaper, but has a much shorter tread-life (220, compared to 320 and 340 above).
* Michelin Primacy HP is a bit out there for the price and is low on tread-life (240).
I'm inclined to go with Continental ExtremeContact DW.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks

If you're concerned about tread life at all get a good all season tire instead. Unless you drive like a maniac you don't lose much and they will last insanely longer.
I use Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum, they have a UTQG of 600, and to me, feel great. The price is right, too.

I'm more concerned about traction than tread-life, especially since I've hydroplaned before (though in a different car with different tires that had very little tread-life left). From the linked article, it seems like summer tires perform much better in the road-grip area.

i just bought hankook v12 evo summer tires to replace some worn-out goodyear gs-f1. I was going to buy yokohama neova ad08 but couldnt justify the extra $500 for all 4 tires...you should read up on the hankooks...good reviews and recommended by car and driver.

Another vote for these Kumho's. Have had them for about 18 months now and love the performance of my GS300 while wearing these. Would not hesitate to recommend them again.

PS2 is an amazing tire but seems like an overkill for GS. I had them on my M3 and I rarely utilized them except for on autocross weekends. Also the rears only lasted 10k on a good year.
