I searched and have read that the 2006 GS 300 has a timing chain and the GS 430 has a belt. I called up a service advisor at Sheehy Lexus of Annapolis and was told that I have a timing belt in my GS 300, is he an idiot or have I read incorrectly?

I have also heard this but I think its a timing belt in my 06' GS 300 because a chain would be louder than a timing belt. I don't think we have a timing chain in our 3GS.

Timing chain on GS300. Check the maintenance schedule, no scheduled timing belt maintenance. Timing belt on GS430 (was still last gen engine). GS300 <= 2005 Timing Belt also.

Its a chain. The GS300 they might be thinking of is the previous 2nd Gen GS300. All "GR" series engines are chain driven.
