Help me Choose.. 3GS or E55

I think if this topic is going to represent one decision or another, I think it's for the Mercedes E55 AMG. The Mercedes is winning 16-14 - at a LEXUS community. That tells you something...

Well, it's entirely possible that I'm just not hearing hearing the rattles - or that I'm not listening closely enough. I've owned a 2000 Lexus RX300, 2005 Lexus LS430, 2010 Lexus RX350, 2007 BMW 335i and a 2007 BMW 750Li. To me, they're all very high quality vehicles - and all had fairly low mileage when I got rid of them (I still drive the 335i).
either you can't listen carefully or your cars happen to be super solid special built
98 gs400 - rattle and squeak
03 is300 - solid
05 sc430 - squeak
07 ls460l - rattle
08 gs350 - rattle and squeak
08 m3 - rattle and squeak
numerous rx330, rx350, rx400h, es350 loaners, almost all rattle and squeak.

The thing is, I prefer Lexus over Mercedes. So even if the Mercedes edged out the Lexus in performance, I'd still take the Lexus.. I'd be very surprised if the Mercedes was better in any other way. I'm not TOO crazy about the new design theme at Mercedes.

If you like modding your cars, the E55 is a no brainer! It's a monster in stock form and can be transformed into a dangerous beast when modded!
The GS is a b*tch to mod, nothing available for us V8 owners and the car really isn't made to be messed with!
I love my GS460, but I can do so much to it, after that it's just boring! Driving it is just a blessing cause its too comfortable. It IS NOT a sports sedan that's for sure!
You want a sedan that does everything you want it to? Plus more?
Look no further than the E60 M5. The E55 is just as good with awesome modding potential. It's forced induction V8, what more can you ask for?

Its a close race so far, but im not interested in the M5 at all im leaning more towards the E55 so far because, as another poster stated.. Lexus parts and services USED to be cheap.. now were spending almost the same money as our German friends..I've done my research if I get a CPO 06E55 with the Chrysler warranty, I should be good when it comes to fixing the petty things.. I dont mind being in a loaner Benz for a few days, its not like I havent been in a loaner ES350 or IS350? Om just getting bored with my GS and im tired of seeing people buying 98 GS300's and turning them into ricer Honda Civics.. The 3GS dont get me wrong is nice, but theres not MUCH that can be done to the 4.6L Engine without pulling out a mortgage loan.. when I could spend $4-5K on upgrading the E55 and be at or close to 500HP to the wheels..Thanks guys, it really says alot when im in the Lexus community and so many people choose the MB in so little time
with 4-5k, you can fpr sure get the car to more than 500rwhp, a bit more work and 600 is in the horizon.
i am no brand fanboy, i get what makes sense while e55 is not perfect, but in this scenario, the e55 is soooo attractive

The E55 is a rocket propelled couch! Oh the torque is truly something else on it. From stop light to stop light and highway cruising that AMG power is second to none. That V8 growl is beastly. If you have deep pockets for tires, brakes, oil, and all the service intervals on that thing, it is damn worth it! 05-06 models are pretty reliable but I would avoid 03-04's.
My buddy has an 05 model, purchased it used with 28k miles and used it as his DD with now 67k. He never had any problems except for the seat warmer module went out on him(fairly cheap fix from indy MB shop, AVOID DEALERS!) and basic service A/B, brakes, $1300 tires every year. Other than those things I love sitting in it, the violent torque just gets me. I'm actually thinking of a CLS55 or the GS460 as next sedan.
