Post ECT Saving Gas

Yes just like it sounds, I have been testing this for two weeks and it seems that everytime I have the ect on I save more gas and gain better gas mileage that it off. yes it does not make sense to me either but I'll fill my tank and then drive a week and the ect will get me a good 28.7MPG while with it off I only get 19MPG I can't explain, but can anyone else explain how this is happening isn't it suppose to be the opposite way.

With or without, I never get better than 15MPG even though my driving is not very spirited... maybe due to 70% city driving...

I used to notice the opposite when I had my GS350. The ECT will prompt the tranny to drop gears and increase engine rpm much more readily. So it doesnt make sense to me either

City driving really kill gas mileage. All those ponies can't stretch their feet. Hybrid or all electric should do alot better in city, they are the jack rabbit type.

Anyway, you can't monitor mpg in city... the traffic is too sporadic.

you aren't the first one i heard about this. i tried myself, in pwr mode the engine tends to kick down on gear and rev higher more easily, and from my 2 week's testing, my gas mileage were noticeably worse than normal

I don't notice much of a difference myself. On the highway there should be absolutely no difference if you're just cruising.

What RPM is your engine working at when going say, 45 mph? Is it different depending on PWR ect or Normal? It really should be the same, the only difference should be how readily the transmission decides to upshift or downshift.

correct, and also the gas pedal gets a bit more sensitive, so pressing in the same amount the car will rev up a bit faster / more. and in my case, that's how it killed my gas mileage, coz' i found the car down shifting more often and up shifting later (higher rev)

ECT just lets you ride the gears longer and more sensitive to down shifting when you are on the gas...
