It helps keep the elements out of the engine bay and away from the headlights, it also has insulation behind it to help with noise reduction so that everyone can hear the subtle rattles and creaks the car makes lol!!!

the fronts do not have any insulation on them, only the rears

I've seen worse. You should be fine driving around like that. changing your fog light bulbs should be much quicker now.

The liner is going to help reduce road noise. Also doesnt it keep the moisture away from fog light wires etc. I know some people remove them all together. My GS was dropped almost to the max on Tein CSt and I never had anything like that. Are you on 22's

probably coz' the wheels on your gs weren't that aggressive. on mine with 20s, the lining is somewhat similar (not as bad, but got holes). same with the other cars i have seen with aggressive setup
