probably hard to find gen6. I was only interested for my iPod to make my life easier and only if I can find this cheap from a salvage car or off eBay. If not then its not that big of a deal. Not worth spending an arm and leg for it.

crazy idea, but any local gen5 3gs people who is willing to let you try their unit on your car?
that's too hard, coz' gen6 is hdd based, so there is no more dvd nav unit, so i expect harnesses might be different?
I was thinking it might be easier because it's an all in one unit with the hdd. The harnesses to the rest of the car ought to be the same, I doubt they changed the ac controller or the other vehicle control modules.

I've stopped making assumptions on interoperability after dealing with my wife's SC400. Had to replace the HVAC assembly and opted for a newer unit. Harness plugged in directly, but ultimately required a new HVAC controller to properly adjust the intermediate fan speeds. One manufacturing break for the HVAC unit and 2 breaks for the controller means there were 6 combinations of unit and controller offered although the plugs on all of them interchange. Slight wiring variations became evident only after going through the schematics pin by pin.
I am definitely interested in this and agree it's going to take some dedicated time with the proper schematics or a test swap to see if it will work.

i can only say with quite confidence that the 2010 have different harnesses / wiring.
You can go Gen4 to Gen5....not sure about Gen6. I never did the conversion since I sold my car. But all the research shows everything to be plug and play. I think someone just recently did this if you search.

Search my name I did the entire conversion. As far as I know I'm the only one that's done it. It is not PNP by ANY means. You will need to modify cars harness quite a bit.
It does work perfect after all the work and I have about 4k in the swap
