Seen the Chevy Malibu ad with the GS next door ?
I just saw a commercial where Chevy is talking about some features on a Malibu or some other sedan, while a dorky neighbor is trying to get a peak at the GM product while trimming his bushes.....with a GS in his driveway....LOL, Whatever is all I can say.

yeah. Those commercials are not targeted at us.
doesn't matter.
the dorky neighbor is peeking, trying to find where the Enterprise rent-a-car sticker is.
"nice rental car."

It attempts to tell the chevy buyer who can't afford a GS that he is getting a great deal - a Lexus grade car at half the price. This makes the chevy buyer feel good about his purchase.
Toyota should do the same thing - comparing the Camry and Avalon to Cadillac.

It's pretty smart of them. Of course the Lexus is a better car, but they both use a similar grade of internal plastic trim, both have questionable looking wood trim, similar size.

Pretty sure I've been berated in the past over this, but Lexus uses "real wood". Guaran-damn-tee you that Chevy does not.

The commercial is geared to the person that wrote this letter I found to Kraft Foods on the internet today.
"I've been enjoying your Kraft Macaroni and Cheese for as long as I can remember. It is not only extremely enjoyable, but also very economical. My wife and I will often "load up" our cart with 60 days worth of your product at the grocery store so that we can afford to barbeque a steak dinner once during the summer. What a treat!"

In GS, it looks like somebody said, "How can we make this look less Toyota, I know let's slap some wood here and there".
Expensive cars have wood panels embedded into the design of the dash and doors, like this.
Wood by the window switches is the classic way they add wood to cheap cars like corollas and camrys.
Cheap cars like the Camry go from this:
to this:
Whenever I see the interior of a Camry I do find it a little disturbing

I had another great idea for a Toyota ad. They should take apart a Malibu and make the point that since GM pays the unions 2X the money to build the car, what are the things they have to sacrifice to save money. Then show how Toyota does it right in the Camry.
I love Lexus' "The Hard Way is the Only Way" campaign btw.
