I just noticed that the GS430 has the older lower resolution navi display.. Can this be swapped out for the higher resolution ones in the newer models??

Might be a good question for Sewell Lexus. They are usually pretty creative.

I can't imagine why not..I'm pretty sure the 2nd Gen GS300 is able to upgrade to just about any of the newer Nav versions. Not sure if it's worth it though, considering what it'd cost to swap.

Personally, I'd just save my money and upgrade to one of the newer GS's in a year or two.

Was a lot of the cost the part or labor? My cousin has a wrecked 350 model that has a nav i could swap out. Is it just plug n play?

It has been discussed many times, but I have yet to see an actual successful swap posted. Best guess on here is you will have to replace not only the screen, but the DVD drive that houses the Nav disc. The backup camera is also considered "part" of the system, but I would hope that part interchanges between setups.

If you have access to a wrecked 350 w/ Nav, you may be in great shape to try the swap and see if it works.

The next time I'm at the dealer, I'm going to get my tech to pull the wiring diagrams and part numbers for the Gen 4 and Gen 5 setups and see where to go from there.

It may be significantly easier to swap out in non-nav units. I get the feeling that all pieces of the nav system would need to be replaced not just the display, of course, that buys you absolutely nothing other than the prettier menus in Gen 5. Even wrecked units tend to be very expensive still.

I'd be interested to know if the non nav units could be easily swapped, given they are the same (pioneer/ml).
