Default Is a/c -heater smell inevitable?

I am about to buy a 2010 GS 350. I have heard from a friend who owns a 2008 GS about his problem, then I searched this board and found numerous complaints about smells, mildew odors coming from the vents. Is it absolutely going to occur, or is it isolated to a few cars?
Thank you in advance for your help.

If you don't run it in "recirculate" mode constantly, it should significantly reduce the chances of moisture building up in there.

If you do get it, it is easily cured with a can a lysol over 4-5 days. Shouldn't be a deal breaker.

I have never had any kind of scent whatsoever coming from my vents....with the exception of when some mice decided to build a nest up under my hood...yeah, that was a real problem but that was fixed by a trip to the dealer.

any make/model/brand can have a/c smell.

Mine doesn't have it. But 2 previous cars I've had the stink, and lysol is only a temporary band-aid. that's why I'm careful with the GS.
I always run the fan for a few minutes to dry it out before turning the car off.
my car still smells like new. and it's almost 4 years old.
