Default How difficult would a wood swap be?

We just picked up an '07 GS350 with the ash interior. We don't mind the grey leather, but our preference would have been to get one of the other two wood colors, not the black wood. I've taken panels apart in plenty of cars, is there anything difficult about the GS's? Is there much of a market out there for people wanting to swap wood panels? Is the steering wheel possible? It looks like the ivory and ash interiors have the same color of leather on the steering wheel, true? TIA.

I don't think anyone has done it. We thought the wood on the doors was part of the doors but Mike recently said it is not.

Sad cause the 2GS wood was so easy to change compared to the 3GS

haha people in IL should love you. i'd almost kill to have blackwood in my car than my current brown wood

first you need someone with 07 gs, because you want to just swap the steering wheel. you don't want to try take apart the wood pieces on that. center console is very easy. the doors can be another painful part, you need to take out door panel, and i think the pieces are kind of glued on as well

some of us actually wish we had the black wood instead, which is not available in the US with the black interior. give it a few weeks i'm sure it will grow on you.

Also I can do the swap myself...Im pretty sure we can just swap door panels and not take apart the wood trim. Either way I can do this myself on both cars.

hahaha a lot of people will hate you mike

are door panels all the same between gray interior and other (black or ash) interior? i thought there are also gray accent on the door, so taking out the wood trim is the way to go?

Not sure? OP post up pics of your interior please. It would sure save time to swap door panels but the trim does come off. I can upgrade your door locks when we have the panels off even if we cant swap...heck why not get some side turn signals while your at it. Better to tackle these now while I have the doors apart if you want to do these mods.

Yep, lots of grey on the door

I think the steering wheel is a different color too. Too bad, I'm close to Chicago.

The steering wheel will be a straight swap with a black interior since the leather on the steering wheel is same for gray and black interiors. The only one with a different color steering wheel is the cashmere.

The only hard part is the doors. Can't swap entire door panel, have to swap either the wood or the wood/switch assembly if its integrated.

I'm sure Mike can make this happen for you.

I'm a bit surprised you want to do this though. Personally the gray leather with black wood is my favorite of the Lexus GS interiors. Black/Cherry is my least favorite. Also I don't think the Grey/Cherry will look good. It's too big a contrast. Gray with Golden Birdseye Maple would work, but it won't be possible because your steering wheel leather doesn't match the cashmere interior cars.

Are you sure? Here's a black interior. The dash and the steering wheel look darker to me
