I thought these two cars had the same motor... however after viewing specs on Lexus's website this is what I found out:

2006 GS430:
-300HP
-325 lb torque

2007 GS430:
-290HP
-319 lb torque

Don't these two models have the same motor?

probably like that cause they didn't want anyone to buy it, but thats intresting cause they had a GS 350 with 305HP so no matter what way you looked at it it made no sense to make the 430!

These are just arbitrary measurements that often have little basis in reality in the first place. Often car makers year to year will tweak how they measure HP/Tq which changes specifications on exactly the same engines.

Take my previous car, it was a Matrix XRS with the 2ZZ-GE 1.8L with "Lift" (also used in the Lotus Elise and Exige). In 2003, my model year, it was rated for 180 HP. In later years, with the same exact engine, they started reporting the HP as down to only 164.

I thought that the HP rating system had changed in 2006? I believe a lot of car's were retested under the new system and all had lower HP. I remember the TL went from 270 to 256hp. (or something like that).

It's the testing method that changed. No company in their right mind would ever want to degrade performance for next model year.

Yes, they changed to the 460 in 2008. 430 has more torque than the 350 which counts for something I would think. Good link for specs on older cars:

It makes sense if you wanted more torque, silky smooth engine, better suspension, better resale and tested reliability. A GS430 will take a GS350 off the line any day of the week.
