Default Burnt out bulb ends up being burnt out harness. FML.

[IMG][/IMG]

So my passenger lightbulb went out about 2 weeks ago and with the weather and work haven't had a moment to deal with it. Today I planned to swap the head lights to see if it was just an odd coincidence (which has happened before) or if infact the bulb was burnt out. I had my oem bulbs at hand to replace as well.

Couldn't get the bulb to disattach from the harness so I had to use some pliers. Low and behold the bulb and harness were melted together. I took 2 pictures of both harnesses to show.

So do I need a new headlight now or can the harness be fixed?

Had garax 6k bulbs in btw...

what your seeing in the first pic is the hid ballast for the fog lights that hidextra provides.

like someone else mentioned, you'll just need a new ballast which you can pick up pretty cheap on ebay. It is a little difficult to change because you need to remove the bumper and the headlight. Ive changed them out before so let me know if you have any questions.

Mines just crapped out as well on the passenger side. It had a burnt smell. My harness got fried and the bulb, im guessing is burnt out as well. Sucks because i just spent a nice chump of change on these Phillip ultinons. So IXI187IXI, all you had to do is change out your ballast and harness?? PS this is for my low beam light

OEM is usually 35 watts. I've never seen 35 watt burn a harness before. 55 watts can burn them up though.

Possible bad quality bulb, or possibly wasn't seated correctly. If there was an unusually high amount of electrical resistance it would create a lot of heat particularly during ignition.

sorry now i understand your question that you pm'ed me

to clarify i never burnt up any of my harness' or bulbs. i did replace a ballast on my headlight though just because it was a bad ballast. they are a pita to change and will require you to remove the front bumper and headlight from the car. the ballast is located on the bottom of the headlight.

You must mean the glue holding the ballast in place the ballast for our cars is held in with a strap the goes over it.
