Default wow. defective leather from factory?

I was conditioning my leather seats (first time in 4 years), when i noticed this on the backside of the passenger seat.

did I get cracked/patched leather from the factory ?

it feels raised, like it was sewn together, then painted over. This is probably what leather repair looks like.

you can't see it from the driver's side because the ambient/daytime lighting obscures it. that's why i never noticed it.

can't believe this passed lexus QC.

it's definitely not a wrinkle.

the perforated leather on the back side of the seat is supposed to be smooth, like my driver seat.

plus, no one sits in the passenger seat, so no reason for a wrinkle anyway.

does your 'wrinkle' feel raised above the surrounding leather?

I had the same issue on my GS and had the replace the leather at the very first service. There was one on the door panel as well and they replaced that on my GS as well.

IMO it's not worth freaking out about. Leather is seldom perfect, it's a natural product. If you want perfect all the time you want plastic.

It's going to develop wrinkles and such just from sitting in it eventually anyway.

I doubt it's a repair because the line even goes through perforations and the perforations themselves are unaffected.

re: being a natural imperfect product- that's one explanation I got.

my driver seat is perfect after 4 years, and the perforated leather has no wrinkles. That's the beauty of perforated seats.

it certainly wasn't repaired after finishing stage. But I'm wondering if it was patched during hide tanning stage.
Could that be a keloid scar from the cattle........

edit: after googling a bit, I found that dumb cows can run into barbed wire, and would result in a raised scar like the one on my seat. Apparently, it is considered a "quality" of top grain leather. http://creativecolorsintl.com/services_leather.html
So my leather is probably worth $10 more now.

I'm not particularly bothered, as it is usually out of sight, out of mind. But since I have less than 3 months warranty left, I'd like to get as many freebies and repairs as I can get.

That's true, but sometimes you'll end up with more things worse off than before after you let them start tearing your seats out... be prepared for dealing with new squeaks, things that aren't fitting as perfectly together as they did before, etc.

For something like that, I'd bring it to their attention but save the favor for something "really" wrong that you might need a favor for out of warranty. But yeah, it's probably a bit of character left from the poor cow that made that seat. Don't let his skin being torn off be in vain. :P

I wonder if applying a little bit of heat via an iron through a damp towel or something would stretch/smooth it out a little. I dunno...

according to what I read, the only way to fix it is by sanding it down during the tanning stage.

at the current stage, it would require plastic surgery. no thanks.

I did email my dealer about this today, and the manager is gonna contact a Lexus rep to see what can be done.

From my experience, certain warranty things get denied to save them money.
I8ABMR has been lucky to get so many things replaced without hassle.
