You think that will stick to the what appears to be polyurethane coating? These things definitely aren't straight wood.

I put it in and I think it looks just fine, though. It is obviously a little bit different than what is on the doors but it's not so much of a contrast that it looks bad. I'll see how I feel about it going forward, though.

The new shift plate does add a good deal more panache to the center console over the old style plain black one, the PNRD lights seem to be a good deal brighter - on the old one you can barely tell if they're lit sometimes it seems.

you can't stain over the clear coat.

you have to remove the clear coat first, and refinish.
you can use a diluted water based stain to try to match the colors, if you're willing to take the risk.

both colors use the same type of walnut wood at least.

staining is actually pretty simple. If i had that, i'd stain it.

there are many shades you can get at the home improvement store.

the hard part is getting the original clear coat off. paint thinner, sand paper....

it would be a good project.

I'm pretty sure any attempt would probably ruin it, I bet underneath the plastic clearcoat the wood veneer is paper thin. And then, of course, it would be very difficult to get an exact match anyway - you'll just end up with a different colour not quite totally matching part.

it is worth the try, but yeah you might damage the wood cause it is paper thin, and they use real thick woood against the vener.
