Exclamation Broken rocker arm and bent valves at 30,000 miles?!?

My 08 GS 350 was acting up the other day during rush hour traffic when the VSC or VCS light came on. It started shaking under acceleration then I heard a clunking noise from the engine followed by it completely shutting off.

Got a call from Lexus today and as of right now has a broken rocker arm, bent and dropped valves, and 1 spark plug won't come out.

Car has a hair over 30,000 miles on it and is still under warranty.

Has anyone had this same experience?

Dealer says all the recalls are up to date.....

I'm the second owner. Bought it from Sewell Lexus of Dallas as a "Lexus Certified Pre-Owned" with 23,xxx miles on it and a 3yr/100k warranty back in October.

Wow!!! This is the first I ve heard about an issue like this. I'm glad I have different motor than the 350's seems like they have some bugs to work out with it. Valve spring issues, cam gear problems, etc. Hope they can get things worked out in a timely fashion. Have fun ******* the loaner lol!!

yeah i always post here about how much i wish i had a gs350 but it seems like the 3.0 liter engine does NOT have such horrible problems. Did Lexus get ahead of itself when they bored the engine out to 3.5 liters and skimp on quality? Can it not handle the stressors that come with cranking out 300 hp?

Out of all of the 2GR-FSEs out there there is bound to be a couple that just explode, just like any engine ever made. I don't think this problem is indicative of anything really.

I hope they fix it right for you though. Who knows, maybe you'll get a 0 miles engine.

Stopped by today to get a smaller car than the RX350 and ended up with the HS200. I was pretty happy with that.

Talked to the service adviser who told me there are so many different broken parts, they don't know where to start in order to figure out what caused the problem. He assures me this is the first time he has seen or hear of anything to this magnitude.

Possible things that MAY have happened were valves sticking from ethanol not fully burning causing a chain reaction. Water some how getting into the gas tank during a snow storm we had a few weeks ago.

Sewell Lexus seems to have great customer service up to this point. I can only hope they can produce a car that will please me equally.

Yeah, but I'm guessing everything is covered and they will probably be giving your car back in probably two weeks thats a long time in GS time.

Good Lord, sounds like something you'd expect on a car with 230,000 miles!
