My 08 GS460 doing the same thing. Mine same color as yours. I look forward to hearing how your approach works out. Do these rails just snap out?

I'm at 104k mi, btw.

well...now I'm at 151K and my rails have not really gotten too much worse, but still loose in spots and unsightly. For those of you who have removed them and tried a DIY fix....is there any trick to removing them? Once removed are there any hardware parts/brackets that have to be replaced in order to reinstall them?? How did the glue/tape job come out?

Mine peeled last summer while on a cross country road trip. After returning home I contacted a friend who works in a collsion shop. He looked into the price of the rail replacements. I recall they were very expensive. I simply removed the coatings and now have silver drip rails.

It’s been a week now still good. ill give it few more weeks, but you are more than welcome to check in with me in case I forget.

Yes,they are clipped on and snap back on. I was able to pull mine by hand. It is very easy just je extra cautious pulling them off specially, on the front windshield and rear sides. You don’t want to break those clips. This trim is also very flexible. When taking it off, unclip all sections and lift it up from the center so, it doesn’t end up bent or scratching the paint.

I was able to pull on off and put back on. They are clipped on. Nothing should break as along you are careful and pull straight up wards. The super glue and JB proxy has worked for me so far. It’s been a wheel I’ll give it another few. At least now I know mine will not get worse since those eadges are glued back. How long will it last that’s the real question. I’ll keep an eye out for it and counting weeks. Haha

Hi, just checking in to see how your super glue and JB fix has held up over the last 15 months. Do you know exactly which JB product you used?

Hey, Believe it or not it has held up pretty well. I am surprised that it has considering I live in AZ. I will take them off and double check the edges and do touch up. Have your done yours? Or planning to do it?

Good to hear. I'm looking at buying a GS350 and saw one that has the same issue. Thanks for following up, appreciate it. If you could share which JB epoxy you used to cover the outside, I'd appreciate that too (if you can remember).

Default Drip molding peeling

My 06 GS had this issue. I just used a heat gun and removed the film. Took about 30 mins for both sides and to me the accent of the aluminum actually looks better. The body color is dark blue with staggered 20in silver wheels with alum lip so it matches really well. It would definitely not look good in all cases but worked for me.

Little late to the party but i'm pretty sure that's just a vinyl sticker and not paint. Just heat it up, peel it off, and rewrap in new gloss black vinyl. or color of your choice.

My 2006 GS300 (onyx blue) has this issue.

Here are some helpful DIY videos I just found on YouTube:
a) remove and paint:
b) cover with new vinyl wrap:

Default Just happened to my 08 at the dealer

Just happened to me at the dealer getting recalls done. I notice the edge or lip was raised on one side of each of the rails. Dealer car wash must have ripped the painted tape off. Damn let's see what they say when I blame them.
