Default Is this bad? Leaking around Strut

When I go over large bumps, the back let shock feels like it's bottoming out and giving me a big THUD. I took pictures under the car of both the drive and passenger rear strut/springs and this is what they look like.

Does this look like the strut is leaking? And.. would it cause the issue I am having?

looks like its blown. if that oil is coming from the strut and your saying your bottoming out over bumps, that leads me to believe (based off the pictures too) that your strut is blown.

The good news is that I believe they are not that expensive, you may even possibly be able to bring it somewhere to be rebuilt for even less.

Did this just happen recently or have you be in for service and nobody even mentioned this to you? You'd think someone would notice that immediately with the car on a lift.

I am going to guess that the dealership will ask for about an hour of labor even though I bet they can do the job in less than half the time. So figure on adding another $120 or so to the cost for repair at Lexus.

you can do it yourself if your handy. its literally that bolt at the bottom and 3 up top for the strut mount. then all you have to do is compress the spring with a spring compressor and remove the nut for the strut mount and the whole assembly can come apart.

What upsets me about this is your second point. The vehicle was JUST brought back to me from the Dealer (150 miles away) to do several other services and recalls. They didn't mention it. They also had to pick the car up again the following day (after dropping it off) to fix the rear camera they disconnected after fixing the TSB for rattles.

I'm kind of upset.

Well, the car has such low miles that none of the recalls have been completed except for the fuel line one. They were doing the TSB on the cam noise, the recall on the valve springs, the TSB on the brakes, and the TSB on the dash rattles.

That's what I'm screaming! I have an outstanding services buy up there but sometimes he's so busy things just get missed. I just got off the phone with him and he is going to see if they can pay Toyota to do the replacement down here in Corpus to avoid the drive up there. I'm gonna end up buying a Kia Optima before this is all over.

front brakes or rear brakes? i guess my point would be if they really only worked on the front of the car, they probably didnt notice anything with the rear struts.
