Default rear view mirror help

Hi,

Has anyone ever had some dust looking stuff behind the rear view glass? I tried to wipe the glass and found that the dust stuff is inside. How can I clean this as it makes the mirror look like ****.

Thanks

you mean the rear view mirror? If so, there is a TSB on it having a poor image quality and I got mine replaced a few months ago.

Yeah that's what I mean. After searching for this people are saying that you won't get it replaced for free if you are pass the warranty period. Is this true? Damn I just bought this car and it doesn't even have 2k miles, but it is an 06.

I still had a factory bumper to bumper warranty when I had the dealer replaced and I bought a Lexus Platinum extended warranty afterwards. Lexus won't replace the mirror for you for free..

Awh that's bs. So how much will this mirror run? I tried looking on ebay and didn't find one for the gs. Do you know if the IS mirrors are the same? So how long is your warranty for now and how much you paid for that?

the mirror costs an arm and leg.

but someone in the other thread got the brake tsb done, and said he only had to pay labor costs, despite being out of warranty.

so maybe lexus might pay for parts, but not labor ?

I heard that the mirror will cost you around $1000 from the dealer so you might want to try the ebay route. I paid about $1300 for 7 yr/75000miles with zero deductibles from Jerry Johnson of Midwest Toyota. However, you're not eligible for an extended warranty from Lexus/Toyota, as your factory warranty has already run out..

So if I can out it on myself, they would give me the parts lol?
I can't believe how much that mirror costs. For that price it should have a touch screen too. Do you know if the IS350 mirror would fit?

Actually you may be able to get the mirror replaced depends on how nice your service guy or girl is. I got something replaced that was out of warranty, I think he called it a grace repair or something like that. The mirror cost $1,297 thats what I was told when they replaced my rearview mirror under warranty, expensive!!

So is this an official recall number? If so I will tell the service department this. They were trying to say they don't remember any mirror recall. Mine isn't as bad as some that I have seen, but I figured that I should change it asap and it wont get any better and will only get worst. Did any of you try to fix it on your own?

Our 06 has problems with the mirror. I missed this recall and I'm pissed cause the original warranty is long gone. I'm going to give it a try tomorrow anyway.

Good luck with that. This is what they told me:

Looks like this is a Hawaii based vehicle and all warranty campaigns have been done except the BLA fuel pressure torque check.* Call us to schedule an appointment 564 1250.* There is no campaign/recall for this car relating to the center mirror.* There was a technical service bulletin which identified certain VIN ranges may fall victim to a loose pivot point or poor appearance.* This technical service bulletin is only valid if reported within its 4 year 50,000 mile comprehensive warranty.* That warranty expired 03 03 2009.

Is that BLA stuff real? What was the issue with this?
