Default Why are my tires rubbing??

Hey guys,

Just bought some wheels from a fellow club lexus member and they rub sometimes.. Here are the specs.

20x9 +38 offset all the way around
245/35/20 front - 275/30/20 rear

my car is a 2007 GS350 AWD
STOCK HEIGHT.

Why are my tires rubbing? Today I tried to reproduce the rubbing to try and pin point where its coming from but with no luck. They didn't rub at all... I asked my friend and he said it also depends on the speed/body roll, that may be why I couldn't reproduce it. But I was driving slowly yesterday when it was rubbing. Even went and got an alignment and they told me it was rubbing while they were moving it from the parking spot to their garage.. WTH? I just ordered BCR coilovers and my buddy is supposed to help lower it in a couple weeks too, smh. Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance.

275 is wide for the rears. The reason why you rub is because the spring rate is too soft on sock suspension.

You can either install coil overs, or use 265 tires.

your tires are too big. i bet the front rubs. an easy way to test this is typically when your backing out of a parking spot and you need to turn the wheel all the way in one direction. when the wheel is fully turned, i bet that front tire is rubbing on the liner.

Yeah, I think front too. The diameter of your front tire is approx. 1/2 more than stock not taking into consideration your offset. I've got 255/35/19 & they rub.

ah ok thanks guys. a couple of my buddies looked at it yesterday and they said I probably need spacers. and yea when im reversing it rubs every time, and yes, the front is the problem. so will installing coilovers help fix the problem or is it even possible/worth while to even drop it without getting new tires? the previous owner had these on a 2000 gs400 and he said he had no rubbing issues.. I would think the 3gs would be able to rock the same wheel with no issues..? idk

its only rubbing on the liner. people have used a heat gun to slightly reshape the liner. its not that big of a deal. if you dont feel like switching tires, thats what i would do.

i have the same size tires on a 460GS. i get a little bit of rub, strangly not on backup and wheel crank. i wanna lower it a little, not a lot. i have seen tons of posts about tanabe NF210 and f-sports being used on a gs460 but not compatible. i like the sewell price on the f-sports, and would love to use them if possible. are they easy to install by myself to save $$$ ?

So you are rubbing on the inner wheel well???? Spacers will make your tires rub on the outer linings and can cause tire to slice.

Like others have said to you and the many before you that try running a 245/35-20 and a 275/30-20 the tires are to big. spacers would probrably make you rub worse in theory unless 5mm brings you out just enough to clear the inside and not aggressive enough to rub the outer, good luck!!!

im really bummed about this. i was sold this setup by fxmotorsports. you would think they would have been able to know my setup was going to be problematic prior to ordering... is it just the tires or the wheels too? if this keeps me from being able to lower my car thats really gonna blow!

spent a ton of money on rims and tires and was expressing my frustration at being sold a product that isnt really compatible with my ride. would think a shop that sells the product one is buying would be able to suss out issues such as the very one i am now experiencing prior to purchase or install. i trusted the shop since im not very familiar with rims/tires and what pitfalls one needs to watch out for. im here to learn, and getting judged by you batman is really not a pleasant experience. what do you bring to the table on this issue? are you really that mean of a person? im sure im wasting keystrokes but i just dont appriciate your sarcasm man. rail me all you want i just think its not cool and not warranted. i really want to learn about my car and see the cool things others are doing here not get chin checked by regulars with a bad attitude when i have a 4k investment that is not really gonna work out as planned due to negligence on the shops part...

The overall diameter of the 245/35-20 is almost an inch taller than OE.
A 245/30-20 is closer to ideal and will not rub.

The bigger diameter of the 245/35-20 is what causes it to rub the front fender liners, especially when turning and reversing due to the caster change.

It really isn't a big deal, aside from the noise.

I have run 255/30-20 and 295/25-20 on the 3GS with no modifications and no issues, but they are very close to stock overall diameter.
