Default Explain the key/door locks please

Hey guys - I love the car. I have figured about everything out so far. But, if I walk up to the car, do I need to hit the key to unlock the rear doors?

Also, will the key fob roll up or down the windows?

TIA

I have a 2006 430.

To unlock the passenger doors, you need to have the car programmed to do so. Otherwise it'll unlock only the driver door. I tend to briefly touch the rear left door to unlock all 4 doors and then enter the driver side.

If you hold the unlock button on the key fob, it will open the sunroof and lower all 4 doors. There is no way to roll the windows back up, not on US spec cars.

That is exactly the "trick" my dealer taught me. You can leave it programmed to only unlock the driver door - which I consider a safety feature. But if you need to unlock all doors grab the rear door. I do it all the time.

BTW, I've had all my windows down unexpectedly once. I never was sure why, I'm thinking I may have squatted down or something and my pants put pressure on the unlock button while it was in my pocket. Yeah - I know what you are thinking....I'm not that talented

When I go to the car with passengers I just touch the rear door first as was mentioned. Seemed like a common sense solution to avoid fishing for the fob to me.

owner manual is the best guide.

I find it a bit annoying when the key fob can't open the back door when the engine is running.

Huh, keep learning things even after owning the thing for this long... I did notice sometimes the back door refuses to open with my touch sometimes but I never really put the two together and had chalked it up to random oddness.

I suppose it's a safety lockout... for some case I can't think of.

I mean it won't unlock the door, I had to open the driver door and press the unlock button.

For the sometime it doesn't open, I find that it will unlock and open on the 2nd attempt.

Did you know that the front doors, when you are inside and pull on the handle it will unlock and let you out.... but the back door you have to manually unlock?

Yep, whenever I have adult passengers in the back they thrash at the handles wildly in confusion. I thought something was wrong at first until I realized both of the back doors were like that.

so on the GS you cant hold the lock and unlock on the key fob for a few seconds and it programs it so the driver side door opens all doors? this works on the IS

If you already have the fob in your hand just press the unlock button twice, I don't see what the problem with that is.

Right, I can open them with the keyfob and hitting the button twice. The guy at the dealer said he would program me for the unlock all when I walk up. I would like that better. Don't the doors automatically lock once your in? I will check the child lock set up to make sure that is good. I think that pretty will finished up understanding the options.

yeah everyone has said it already here is the link to the LPS for your vehicle http://www.lexus.com/pdf/service/GS_LPS.pdf, you will need to bring this to the dealer, they should be able to do it for free if your lucky. Also if you walk up to the rear doors and it doesn't work, back up a little and try again always works for me.

I find that pull on the handle and pull it again works better.
