Default Looking to buy an 07 GS350

I work at a Nissan Dealer and someone just traded a pearl white GS350 AWD. I can get it for $20,500 which is $500 over what they gave the customer on trade. I do have a couple concerns though. The first is the mileage which is 86k, and the second is the cold start noise I heard when I started the car,but from looking around here it is very common. Will Lexus fix the cold start noise for free, and should I be concerned about the mileage? The car is in near showroom condition, and from what I can tell, is fully loaded with all the bells and whistles.

welcome to clublexus

cold start noise? you mean the ticking sound? if so, that's the high pressure fuel injectors, that's "normal" and there is no fix

mileage is very high for a 07 imho, but i guess 20k is more or less reasonable price for the car

The miles are high but if it has all the options than yeah its fine although you could probably get something close to that price with less mileage.

dont buy it!!!!
i wanna sell my 2007 gs awd too! it has 40k miles. and i will gladly let it go $29K.

i have to warn you though. this car consumes gas like you wouldnt believe. my friends were shocked. they thought an expensive car would be "efficient." it isnt. i dont drive aggressively and i get about 16mpg in city. and if im lucky, 26mpg on highway. ridiculous, i know!!! still interested? im in philly

the noise you are thinking of is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBsVeesr9Y0
mine was fixed by the dealer promptly 1 month ago.

expensive cars would be efficient? what kind of logic is that? you see any ferraris and lamborghinis being efficient on gas? gs350 is already more on the efficient side already compared to other cars in its segment. drive the 535 and e350 and see what you get. if you want efficient, you should be looking at camry

Wow, I was thinking the same exact thing. I would never expect to get great gas mileage from this type of car. My '09 Altima only gets 18 mpg in the city right now, so if I get close to that, I will be ecstatic. By the way, will I have to use premium fuel or will plus work on a GS350?

if you do a lot of city driving of course your mpgs are going to be very low. i average around 19mpg to 20mpg and thats with a lot of stop and go traffic. if your in the city, i can imagine it being worse.

Whatever the source of the engine noise, you would need to pay for it since the car is out of warranty ... even if it is the issue described in the TSIB. Unless, as mentioned, it's just the sound associated with direct injection.

As far as 16/26 mpg, that is definitely on the low side. I would think 18/28 is more typical. I have consistently gotten 19 city avg. and 29-30 hwy. avg. on my '07 GS350 (non-awd) over the past 3.5 years. I am not a maniac, but not exactly ginger with the gas pedal either. I definitely notice a decrease in mileage of 1-2 mpg when I run the AC.

Yes, you will need premium fuel. This is a Lexus, not a Nissan, so you're going to have to be prepared to incur the higher costs associated with owning it.

On the gas mileage comment, the opposite is true, actually. Lower cost vehicles typically offer higher fuel efficiency.

Let's assume the noise is that which is described in the TSIB. Is it a noise that would turn into a bigger problem, or just a noise that will stay the same during the life of the car? I have talked to a couple Toyota "A" techs and they all said the same thing, a lot of Toyota's make that same noise on a cold start, and those motors are rock solid,so it shouldn't be anything to worry about.

One of the reasons I bought my 07 AWD was because of the mileage. A car of this size & power getting 19-20 in town? I love it....

While on the subject of mpg, most of my driving is in stop and go Los Angeles with most trips under three miles. I'm satisfied getting 16-17 MPG. On the flip side, occasional round trips to Palm Springs yields 29MPG averaging 70MPH, one passenger and about 60 lbs in the trunk.

If anyone complains about MPG buying a $50K luxury car weighing 3,500 lbs+, then they must be an Obama supporter and drinks all the Kool-Aid Washington has to offer.

I'm just saying...

i admit im a dope when it comes to cars. when buying my gs, gas efficiency wasnt a big priority because it was just 3.50 a gallon for premium.

i was looking around to get another luxury car. but all of them take premium and averaging 17 mpg. pitiful! so im gonna forgo this round and wait till Tesla comes out with that sedan model or whatever.

16/26 isn't horrible.... its actually pretty good for this type of car.... If you think thats bad my Mustang would give you a stroke! it gets 6MPG in town and 12-13 on the highway! but it will get you to the gas station quick!!! However my GS 430 with a V8 gets 18 in town and 28 on the highway if im being nice
