Hello
Well recently I noticed when I reverse for about 10 feet and then drive forward I hear a clunk noise from the front. It is defiantly the brake pads shifting in the front calipers. It also start screeching when it shifts but that is the shims that need to be lubed. My question: How many of you guys are experiencing the same noise when reversing and then driving forward hitting the brake to hear the shift. I also some what remember of having same brake pad shift noise when I had the OEM brake pads on, right now I am using akebono brake pads.
I had this problem early on when I got the car. The dealer fixed it by replacing my front pads.
You sure it was just the pads? Not sure how replacing oem pads with oem pads would cure this problem as they are both the same exact size. I was thinkin it would of been maybe a fitting kit, but my
Fitting kit is in place. Spoke to one of my friends he said he had same exact problem on his 2005 gx470 and his rx350 2008 both with oem pads.
I had this problem with my old GS 430 when I would reverse I would shift and a clunk sound could be heard and he told me its normal its just the pads shifting, and that was with the fitting kit, but if you bring it to the dealer let us her what they say.
got myself an akebono pads, finally there is no dust!
and I keep seeing you on Ocean Pkwy a lot lately, I can only tell it's you because of the visors
I got akebono pads also right now that I replaced OEM with, but it shifting and making noise . Yea the visors defiantly stand out, but be carefull there is a new kid in town with same exact color, visor, and rims as mine. I get a lot of calls saying that they seen me while I am home.
UPDATE So i took in my car to a mechanic and explained to him the problem. He said it usually happens when the caliper is on its way out. He took the pads off, removed the shims took out the metal fitting piece that hold the brake pads from vibrating. He bended it more so it has more pressure and force onto the brake pads. He put on my old brake pads without the shims, they are complitely naked no shims on either passenger or driver side. TOld me to take a test drive and let him know. I drove around, its quite like a mouse and no more pad shifting at all. I am very suprised because shim kits are designed for it not to squeal, but in my situation it was the reason for the squealing. Honestly i think if we were to clean and lube up the shims it would of turned out this way also.
I've had the brake shift "click" since the 1st month of ownership. Brought it up to the dealer sometime back and the service advisor just said it was normal
