Default 2007 GS350 w/Nav and ML questions

I just bought a 2007 GS350 w/Nav and the ML stereo. There is an iPod cable in the center console so I hooked up my iPhone 4 to see what it would do. I get the error message saying it is not optimized and the charging function will not work. I can listen to songs on the iPhone, but the controls are very limited. Does this mean I most likely have a first gen of the VAIS adapter? The iPhone has been jailbroken so is there anything from Cydia that might make the phone compatible? Also, when listening to regular radio stations, on the display are the presets, is there a way to be on a screen that just shows the station, artist, and song title, instead of having all the presets showing?

jailbreak has nothing to do with it, your iphone is just fine. it's hard to say what ipod kit you have, could be the factory ipod kit too. the phone isn't charging i believe is because it's on 5v charger, but you probably have the old 12v charging, which means you need adapter in that case. if that's true then that means it's definitely some old unit (and if vaistech, then it's not the sl2i-up).

do you see albums and song titles on screen? for the error message, it's always there no matter what unit you connect to, even if it's the most updated one

It's definitely a Vaistech unit because I plugged in an iPod and it says Vaistech on the iPod screen. And with the iPhone, I can only change songs by using the iPhone, nothing works on the steering wheel or HU.

Cool

I think it's better to connect your iPod or phone through the aux input, it's alot easier to drive and choose music that way.

only through the ipod and can't use the screen / controls? if it's vaistech, i say it's stuck in the simple mode maybe? or it's not initialized correctly?

How do I know which mode it's in and if it's initialized correctly? My brother went out with me last night and brought his 160gb iPod classic and it didn't seem to be working correctly either. It seemed like it worked much better by just controlling everything on his iPod instead of through the HU.

I think to get control of the unit you need to press something three times in order to get the wheel controls, it should work with iPhone mine does.

press scan button 8 times in 2 second if i remember correctly. look up sl2i-up manual and look for simple mode (just something to try, without knowing models it's hard)
