which oil should I use for my 07 gs?

Hi...why every 2k or 3 months...Especially using synthetic. It seems you are "throwing" away good oil too early. Do you have any validation that this is better? Just curious...I often thought about doing this back in the 90's..thanks in advance.

Can't believe so many people BUY into the marketing hype about synthetic and synthetic blends. Use a name brand motor oil and do an LOF every 3-4,000 miles (for those who live in stop-n-go traffic). Otherwise, if your driving is 75% highway, do an LOF every 5,000 miles. I've never had an oil-related problem driving two Toyota's and a Buick with a minimum 155,000 miles per car.
Great post.
Correct service interval is FAR more important than what brand of oil you use.

I just change the dino oil every 6 months. I never put anywhere near enough mileage between oil changes to have to change it due to anything but time so synthetic is a total waste for me.

Why are oil intervals so short in the States? Here on the other side of the Atlantic the 3GS oil interval is 10,000 miles - and even that is very short compared to the likes of BMW and VW with 20k mile changes (although I prefer the Lexus interval TBH)!
As for the oil itself: it's not some ultra high pressure / turboed / supercharged monster. Any bog standard semi synth that meets the correct specification (API SL from memory) should be fine, especially with short intervals.

My car has 55k on it, and my engine sounds little rough sometimes? Also the ticking sound coming out of my engine is also kinda noisy, is that normal for lexus. Like I said, I always had mercedes before so I have no clue about lexus. Thanks

Here is the oil analysis of my Lexus GS300 @ 86000 miles.

Transmission fluid (really needed to be changed by 86000 even though lexus says it doesn't need to be changed).

Here is my Lexus SC300 on Valvoline SynPower:
I have since drastically extended my oil change intervals as a result of this information. 10K is not unusual.

For me personally, I use synthetic over regular oil on my GS for peace of mind, and that I am giving my car better protection. Sure regular oil will do. This is on the same line of why would I pump Shell/76 into my GS where Costco/Arco will do, or when I pump premium into my cars when they are recommended and not a requirement. Just MHO, and I change every 5K.

Right. The only way to know if your oil is doing the job is to have it analyzed. For those of you changing you oil at 2 or 3K miles on synthetic, please stop! For the love of god! What a waste.

We change oil not because we want to, we do it cause it need to be done. But since most of us don't get it analyze every single time on every engine on every brand, etc etc... we always go by the recommended by the own manual which is a generic recommendation.
Anyway, with this new info and how my oil came out last oil change, I will extend mine to 10k.
Anyway we can change the warning light to 10K instead of the set for 5k reminder for oil change?

5w30 vs. 10w30
I use a synthetic the last oil change. I have 65k miles. But the last 2 oil changes I noticed being down over a quart each time. I read on another topic that some of you recommended going to a 10W30 versus a 5W30 to keep the oil from burning up. I might try this as I'm due for the next change. Any ideas?
