I tend to lean towards overkill, but many years ago I started using Royal Purple 5w30 in cars. These cars were given to children and since have driven over 200k & 300k without any engine/oil related issues. I have an 08 GS 350 and have used RP since the beginning, currently over 45k miles and my car is great. Some posts in this forum talk about their engines running rough or certain noises. I do not have any of these issues. I pay $8/qt for RP and each change requires 6.7 qts; approx. $56...ouch!!!! I receive a credit from Lexus for using my own oil of $21, so net cost $35 plus labor. I do extend the the miles between changes to 7k, and my Lexus dealer is onboard, after a little struggle. So the average Lexus owner pays for three oil changes per my 2 (example over 15k miles; and Lexus requiring changes every 5k). I am at peace and know my car is protected. Good luck.

Your Lexus dealer may say they are on board with your extended oil changes. But if you have engine problems related to a lubrication issue, I will state that the warranty administrator for Lexus Manufacturer will not be on board. The dealer must clear warranty claims through Lexus before they can perform the repair at no cost to you. That is an out for Lexus if you do not follow the warranty schedule. I think your dealer is just trying to placate you, in order to keep you as a customer. I would call the Lexus Regional office to see what they say and if they differ from the warranty schedule then get it in writing. Your car calls for 5,000 miles oil changes, even if you use synthetic.

Can't believe so many people BUY into the marketing hype about synthetic and synthetic blends. Use a name brand motor oil and do an LOF every 3-4,000 miles (for those who live in stop-n-go traffic). Otherwise, if your driving is 75% highway, do an LOF every 5,000 miles. I've never had an oil-related problem driving two Toyota's and a Buick with a minimum 155,000 miles per car.
