Default Price help on a 2008 GS460

I'm about to make an offer on a 2008 GS460, 28k miles, opaline on grey, with g-spider rims and CPO warranty. Overall condition is really clean, but doesn't have the "new car" smell that I've come across with some of these used cars.

Dealer is listing it for $42.9k+TTL. What would be a fair offer in this market? I'm thinking of starting off at $37k OTD and seeing what they counter. Thx.

I'd start at $32K. Use car prices have elevated slightly BUT...there are two days to go before the end of the month. See how badly they want to sell the car and do NOT have an emotional attachment to the car.

32k seems ballsy, but i might try 34 or 35k.

the car's been on the market for about 14 days. Cargurus.com gives the market price around 37k... but black book price is around 30-33k.

Lexus resale value here is amazing. We are talking an average of around 5 to 8% depreciation per annum.

Default GS 460 Purchase

Keep your emotions out of it. Think of it as a four year old model vehicle as it will be in about 90 days. Check wholesale value through Edmunds.com and check suggested selling price. Then offer as low as you can get to the wholesale and let them come back at you with an offer and work from there. Not only is it near the end of the month, it is also the end of a Quarter. They generally have in house incentives to move cars on those dates, as they will be paying their flooring cost to the bank again on their inventory. If it was that great of a price they were asking someone else would have grabbed it. All of those options you list has no retail value regarding the book price of the vehicle.

Offered 35.8k, then got counter of 40.8k (before TTL i assume).

Then I got the "we dont play games, you won't find a better deal, etc etc."

So ball's in my court...

Just as a data point my one has 17k miles, and 23 months left on the original warranty.

Dealer offered me 34k for the car (straight sale, I told them I don't want a Lexus).

I think your offer was spot on. I would not go above $36K.

Walk away. Do not deal with salesmen who go "we don't play games". Those old school tactics should have gone out with the free hot dogs and balloons for the kids. Plenty of used GSs for sale, this car will be replaced in the Fall, and its value will drop another $4000 just because it's no longer current gen.

I agree. Walk away. Such an attitude doesn't deserve your business. There is ALWAYS another deal waiting around the corner.

He's gonna call you back, just wait! And when he does, say the same thing to him! Tell him you don't like to play games! Give him your offer, take it or leave it!
