When I star my car I get a loud chattering sound
On start up, what can be described as a loud chattering sound, for only for a second, thought maybe it was the fan, but also thinking it could be valves.
And it only happens sometimes, I know when I bring it to the dealer it's not going to do it...
Anyone had or know of this?

Yea that's normal... I was feelin the same way, I didn't wanna bring it to the dealer cuz I knew it wouldn't do it while I was there... But one day i just took it to the dealer for a oil change and it was just my luck that when I started it, it made that sound and the mechanic was standing right there. He said it's normal so u have nothin to worry bout.. It is a lil annoying tho, especially when u tryna stunt and it makes that nasty noise on start up!!!

i have this noise as well.. grinding, metal chattering sound upon start up. it happens so random that its hard to reproduce. going to wait and see if this gets worse, and hopefully extended powertrain warranty will cover this.

I've never had that metal grinding noise.
but even if I did, I would be reluctant to have them perform 6 hour surgery and take apart the engine yet AGAIN.
my car is 4 years old.... an age where I don't really give a crap about defects anymore, as long as the car still drives.

Take it in say its the cam gear. Tell them to keep it over night and give you a loaner. GS350 AWD: Took mine in and they kept it overnight to prove the sound, haven't heard the sound since. good luck

Ok so I took my 2011rx350 in today for the first service I also took my iPad along with me and had the TSIB fIle on hand and asked the service guy about the chattering sound he said here he never heard of anyone saying anything about it. I mentioned that there are alot of people that I know with this same problem (you guys on the forums) he looked on his computer for the TSIB number and what came up was that the TSIB number had been discontinued or stopped. So I asked him what do I do should I just wait and see if my car breaks or what. He said he will make a note of it and call the main office about it and that's that... I guess I need to call the main office myself and make some noise so they do something. It's crappy that you need to take things that far to see some results.

I had to add this reply for now the 3rd time.. just to help anyone else. Reply from two different topics with same issue.
Thanks to sifrido for giving me the idea, but (my reply copied from another topic)
Just so you guys know I had the chattering noise for about 2-3 months. I kept complaining about the noise to the dealership, but they needed to "Replicate the Problem".
Here are the two other threads

I got so fed up I started to record the noise. I went to the service department and played them a video with the noise. After hearing it in 3 different videos of my car, they decided to take care of the cam shaft issue.
Apparently, the 06 GS is not listed under the TSIB but the technician who watch the video with the service consultant says it does in fact effect the 06 also. Needless to say they fixed on 4 days ago, and I havent heard the noise since. Now im a happy Camper.
