Free Factory Brakes Upgrade/Recall?
I dropped off my 08 GS 350 with 35k on it yesterday at Sewell for an oil changed and asked them to look at my brakes since they've been squeaking. I got a call this morning and was told they gave me new front pads and rotors since there was an "upgrade" that Lexus had.
So, I'm guessing if you haven't already had it yet, go in and get some free pads and rotors.
I never got a recall letter or anything in the mail about it but sure do love Sewell Lexus

It's not a recall, it's TSIB (service bulletin). If the customer complains about brake dust or squeaks, they can install these alternate pads. I wish I lived closer to Sewell Lexus...Darrel and his crew are top notch!

I told my dealership same thing and they said my brakes were fine even with squeaking noise. I knew there was a TSIB but I didn't mention it. I will bring it with me next time when I bring my car in for an oil change tho.
I guess some dealerships are more willing to help/fix the problems than others. :/

Sewell Fort Worth has given me a new engine and brakes so far this year without having to raise hell with anyone.
So they'll let you drive around with the old stuff and not do anything unless the customer says something on a TSIB? Makes me wonder if there are any other things I should bring up and get replaced....

It could be due to our 100+ degree weather in TX. 20 will not thin more than a 30 weight would when hot. It's the dealer and they have a little more experience than I do.
I was really surprised too. Almost forgot to mention it till he asked me if I needed them to look at anything else.

5w20 is now the recommended oil. They Issued a TSB on it.... I have heard great things about Sewell and i wish i was using them for service because even though i have Platinum coverage on my 430 its always a fight with Westside to fix anything.

On my 2008, they had the high-friction/high dust pads from the factory. They were high performance, but they were also high maintenance, in terms of keeping the wheels clean. I found out from reading on here that Lexus had a TSIB for the high dust pads and I called my dealer about it. They were aware of the TSIB and did the change for free. Then about 9,000 miles later those brakes started squeaking. Lexus had another TSIB for that and my dealer did the change for those for free as well (exactly what the OP had done).
That car got wrecked a week after that work was done, so all for naught. The newer models come pre-loaded with no dust/anti-squeak brakes. (4,000 miles and counting).

You may get lucky, but I think the cut-off line is 50K miles (original factory warranty).

I just sent my 07 gs 350 to the dealer to get the valve spring recall and the fuel distributor recall. I told them about the tsb on the brakes and they said it more than likely wont be covered since I have over 62k on my car even though I just bought it like this. Seems to me if you have a tsb or recall it should be covered unless the parts have already been replaced with aftermarket parts. just my 2 cents.

At 28k miles, I got the free front pad/rotors too. I complained about the squeaking noise, took it in to Glendale Lexus, CA and they did it for free. No more squeaking now.
