Took a basic class on painting in college. It is scuffed up then I used plastic adhesion promoter. I spayed the factory paint out of a spray can (3 coats). Then used a clear coat over the paint.

i was also looking at gettin' rid of some of the chrome. my only concern was if it were painted is it more likely to chip? since they're plastic. i was thinking of the grill surround and headlight surround piece.

If painted correctly it will be no more likely to chip then the rest of the front, it needs to be scuffed, adhesion promoter, epoxy primer and paint. Im blacking out my emblems, grill and headlight bezels, replacing trunk emblems with new, painted black ones, and Im wrapping the window trim and ventshades in vinyl.

I just have one question why? I understand not wanting chrome on the car but why not paint the parts and black them out with flat black or matte black?

I'm not big on chrome, but I don't think the GS has too much. Whatever is there compliments the car IMO.
What I don't like are the various extra pieces of chrome that people add on, such as the chrome B-pillars and door handles. I hate that crap.

I'm with you on the extra chrome. The B-pillar additions are just horrid. The only additional chrome I like is chrome wheels. Something about the look of chrome, especially on a dark car in motion is captivating. It's all about the bling!

i've always hated chrome on cars, and am not a big fan of some of the chrome on the 08+ (really stands out on black)
I do have to say that some of it actually looks good, the headlight surrounds is a bit much though
