please post your experience in tackling this. It's been discussed many times but I am not aware that anyone has attempted it or been successful. Would love to hear that it can be done. It opens up new options for VAIS units on the older models.

OP this might help you. its for an 07,08 but make sure the connections fit and you will have a much better Gen5 screen then Gen4 .

I remember some members having a problem with condensation collecting around the air duct somewhere beneath the center stack. Wondering if the two are related, as the moisture could certainly cause this. Did you see any rust anywhere down there? I think there's a picture somewhere ... I'll try and dig it up.

Is the screen the same on the '06 as it is on the '07+ 3GS? I know the nav software is different, and a couple of the ebay posts have said "for '07-'08". Something to check out before going this route...

GS is back in business! In the end, it was not the CIC but the dealer-installed rear DVD and entertainment system that caused the problem! The rear monitors were somehow wired into the headunit and after 4+ years of use, an electrical short developed behind the headunit. $495 later, I'm relieved! I still got the full interior/exterior detail with paint touch-ups as well. The wife is very happy...I might actually get some play tonight!

BTW, my loaner was a 2011 IS250...GAS HOG! I/we drove about 400 miles in 5 days and burned $67 in fuel. Of the 400 miles, over half of that was highway mileage on a 220 mile roundtrip! That's worse gas mileage than my IS300...

glad to hear that it's fixed! so i guess dealership worked on it and figured it's their problem huh? seems like you are a happy camper now (and tonight!)

that's a lot of gas you burned on the is250. maybe the previous guy put in 87

Or maybe he treated it like I treat my loaners and kept it in sport mode, and used the paddle shifter the whole time
