you have spare right??
if yes, go to your dealer and buy the fob, get it programmed on your car.
the way they do it is they hook up the Intellegent tester to the car, the bring the fob to the start.IGN button untell it beeps, then they fo the same with the new one then you are done. you have a backup now.
my dealer quoted about 170$ for the fob and 85 for programming it. this was 2years back when tsunami didnt have effect on spares price
if you lost it and you dont have any fob to start the car, then man you have to change the engine immobilizer/

Cheapest place to buy a fob is Sewell Parts Online. You can also program a used one of ebay but you need to get the FCC ID and see if it matches. Even then sometimes the used ones aren't compatible.

Or less if you negotiate. I got it down to the employee price of $60. I'm not an employee.

Everyone makes mistakes, looses keys, gets a flat. But replacing a Lexus key fob is probably the worst "car" experience outside of having a wreck.
My wife lost hers 200 miles away from the nearest dealer. Options were to tow to Austin, and get a replacement… well over a $1000 fix. We found someone who could replace it on site.. and it cost us $450.
Three weeks later I lost mine.. down the toilet… 1 hour service time, and $250 for fob totaling over $400. Funny if it weren't so frustrating.
My point is.. No manual way with non-fob key to start the car.. Why?
Lexus will say to make it harder to steal… I say BS!
An extremely technical company like Toyota can't find a way to remotely start the car.. i.e. as in ONStar or the like?????
This forces Lexus drivers with no options other than extreme inconvenience of waiting "2 hours" to get a fob programmed…
The extreme inconvenience of only being able to get this done at a dealership…
And Cost… Austin Lexus.. over $400
Ebay.. off brands… non Lexus fixes.. just don't work well.
This is absolutely unacceptable and is NOT an experience for a premium brand like Lexus that they are allowing to happen to their customers.
I can only conclude that this is a money making scheme for Lexus.
Don't agree.. try paying close to $1000 for two keys within a month… say what you will about our ineptness.. it is still NOT A PREMIUM BRAND EXPERIENCE.
