Default Lowest Offset Without Spacer

The stock wheels on my GS450h have an offset of 45. If I were looking for new wheels and wanted to stay with the stock size wheel of 18X8, what is the lowest offset I could get away with and not have to use hubcentric spacer? I am also looking to stick with with the standard size tire 245/40-18. Thx!

One thing you could do, is get a ruler and rule out how many MM it takes to reach your "limit" as to where your wheel can stick out.... take that and I believe subtract from your 45mm offset, that's how you know what offset you want

Chime in anyone who believes i'm wrong here.

i think you are a bit confused. the lower the offset, the more the wheel sticks out. which means the less you will "need" to use spacers?

So based on what rominl says, a wheel with an offset of 40mm will stick out 5mm more than the stock wheel which has the 45mm offset. Does that also mean the wheel should clear the caliper and everything else easily? Again assuming we are staying with the stock 18X8, 245/40-18 setup.

no, clearing the caliper or not, that's based on the disk (spoke) design. you always need high disk setup in order to clear the caliper, spokes curve out more to achieve so. but it has little to do with offset (or i should say not a hard relationship)

it also depends on your ride height how far the wheel will poke out the lower the car the more negative camber you will gain tucking the top of the wheel inward this will allow your offset to be lower since you will have more room to make up!!
