Any and all advice on this purchase would be appreciated!
going to buy an 06 gs300, 430, or 07 350 in the weeks to come. Any advice would be much appreciated.
I likely will be purchasing from a private seller, and there will be no warranty on the car... does that make me a crazy person?
what sorts of issues should I expect to encounter, be prepared to pay for, and/or be plain worried about?

You can find in craiglist or autotraders.com. I bought my 07 GS 350 from Ford dealer last month ago, and it was 28k miles on it. I choose warranty coz it was very important. No issues on my car. 
So, 06 GS300 doesnt have airplane tail on top. You can get 07 GS350.

Have a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) performed by a qualified independent mechanic that is familar with Toyota/Lexus cars. This will cost you but may be worth it in the long run. Ask the owner to provide copies of all/any maintanence/repairs done on the vehicle. Contact local Lexus dealer and ask for the same, comparing what the owner provided and what the dealer provided to see if they are the same. Take the car you are interested in on a long test drive, around town and open highway, curvy, bumpy roads so you can get feel for the car. Offer the owner to pay for the gas to allow you to do this. If everything checks out on the good side, then consider purchasing the vehicle.

I bought my 07 at the dealership because of the warrentee. I dont expect to run into any issues with the car but its nice to have.
the 07 obviously has more power than the 06 (unless you get the 430) and the navi on the 07 is much better than the 06.

06 gs300
I purchessed my 06 GS300 one year ago,it had just under 70,000 miles. I have driven 5,000 miles since then with no problems. Love the car.
Would do it again in a heart beat. Go for it.

Well expect some common rattles and a few other things the lre are no major problems. I have an 2007 gs350 awd with warranty i bought it well because any minor thing can cost an arm n a leg. If you can find a private seller like me who is selling his car with lexus platinum warranty that is transferrabe would be great.
