Secondly, I'm not certain that being unsettled can't be resolved by just buying an extended warranty. Lastly, living in southwestern PA we get our fair share of slippery conditions every winter and our topography does tend to leave cars with less that good slick road performance either on the side of the road or in my way. I ran winter tires on all 4 corners of the car and rarely even slipped a wheel and never got stuck. I have had cars that handled winter conditions better than the GS but none were even close to the performance and comfort of the GS. All in all the AWD system is a must if you live where it snows and I never felt like I compromised reliability or anything else for that matter.

I don't think the extended warranty is good idea for me, because I plan on buying the car in the US and plan on importing it to Canada. The reason I was aiming to get the RWD car is because of the low mileage. The RWD only has like 31k on it where as the AWD has like 41k, the 10k is a huge difference when it comes to maintenance for it. What kind of maintenance have you done to your gs so far?
My 07 GS 350 AWD too is a US sold vehicle and I have been getting it serviced here in BC without any problems. I bought my 3yr/75,000miles Lexus Platinum warranty from a Toyota dealer in the US and I haven't had a problem getting it to cover my GS here.

I lived in Toronto and just bought an 07 AWD in late June 2011 for 28K tax in. It was a Lexus certified with 79,000 Km but does not have NAV or back up camera. I picked it over the one with NAV because of the colour combination (star fire with tan interior). I bought the extended Lexus warranty for $2000 extra which covers up to 160,000 Km or June, 2014. So far no issue except for the annoying front brake squealing. I brought it back to the dealer and even called Lexus customer service sighting the TBS on this issue but it's not covered under ECP. The dealer said it's the second gen pads I have on and they tend to squeal, but since the pads are still at 70%, they recommend to ride them off. I already had new pads, shims, installation kit ordered along with a bunch of other parts from Sewell (couldn't believe how cheap they were) shipped to my sister's place in Michigan to be picked up when I go over there for Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping. As for winter experience I am anxious to find out. I already have my winter set up installed on Saturday. By the way, I went to a Toyota dealership for the install. For $100, they installed the TPMS, tires onto rims, swapped out summer for winter and programmed the TPMS. Lexus dealer wants $225 just for the TPMS programming!
