Default Advice Needed

Hello Everyone,
I am in the thinking of purchasing a 08 GS350 AWD/Nav with 38,222 miles. The dealer wants 28,900. Is this a good deal?
Also, this was rated a CPO (per carfax) and my question is should I buy it without CPO warranty and buy a 3rd party warranty? Is there much difference in 3rd party and CPO warranty from Lexus? I definitely want a extended warranty because I am planning on keeping for a long time.

Thank you in advance.

CPO comes with a 3 yr 100k mile warranty. If you decide to purchase a non-CPO car, you will find that everyone here will recommend getting a Lexus platinum warranty which extends your manufactures warranty to 7yrs or 100k miles. This warranty varies in price but can go for around $1700. You have to ask yourself is it worth the hassle of buying a non-CPO car and then purchasing a Lexus platinum warranty if it is not going to save you any money.

If the car your looking at is selling for 28900 and comes CPO then it's a pretty good price today. However, prices have started to fall since the summer where cpo's sold in the low 30's.

I'd say that's a pretty good price for a CPO. I purchased mine, CPO, same year, comparable mileage, in November for $32k. I'd buy it if I was you...

Thanks guys , but this car was a CPO but not it is not. If I understand correctly, once it goes to non Lexus dealer it loses the CPO status.
Think its still a good deal if I buy the Lexus platinum warranty?

Not sure about the cpo transferring. If it doesn't transfer then the price is pretty much market price. If it was CPO with included warranty it would have been a good deal. Can you see what I'm getting at?

I believe all CPO vehicles have the option of the Lexus platinum warranty. Non CPO might not have that option, they have to pass their inspection. I would definitely get the factory warranty, they cover the vehicle bumper to bumper. Mine has paid itself off already, still have 4 years left. 3rd party makes it more of a hassle to cover certain things, especially the engine. There was another member posting his dislike for his 3rd party warranty.

Correct me if I am wrong folks, but a Lexus dealership is the only place you can buy a CPO vehicle coverered by Lexus. If you find a vehicle that was once a Lexus CPO'd vehicle at a non-Lexus dealership, that extended warranty is no longer covered by Lexus. You will need to find some other coverage.

That is correct. CPO is non-transferable (only offered through sale atf Lexus Dealership). You couldn't even sell your car third party and have it transferred to new owner.

I just picked up my 08 GS 350 AWD with 45,000mil for $25,000 2 weeks ago.
I've been waiting for about 6 months to find a good price.
It's under warranty for 4 years (March 2012) or 50,000Mil.
I got this quote from Jerry Johnson(www.midwestsuperstore.com) (found him on this forum) :
L2-LEXUS, (GS350 RWD)-(GS350 AWD)
6 YEAR 70,000 MILES $830.00,
6 YEAR 100,000 MILES $1,275.00
6 YEARS 125,000 MILES $1,750.00

7 YEARS 75,000 MILES $1,255.00,
7 YEAR 100,000 MILES $1,615.00
7 YEARS 125,000 MILES $2,190.00

8 YEAR 75,000 MILES $1,415.00
8 YEARS 100,000 MILES $1,960.00
8 YEARS 125,000 MILES $2,775.00
His prices seem to be very good. I was quoted out by my local Lexus stealership for a 5 year, 100,000K for $2,300.

I think this is a good price. Just picked up 2008 GS 350 AWD with 15K from family member for 25K.
As far as warranty, GS has very good reliability record, it should be no problem reaching 100K with minimal issues. I would pass any 3rd party warranty. Well, this is what I been doing with all my oter cars.

Hmm..sounds like you're buying a used car (i.e. from a private party). Make sure you can buy the Lexus extended warranty BEFORE jumping on the car.
