Anyone scared of high miles?

Well I went to look at it, and it was sorely misrepresented based on the ad and what the guy told me on the phone. For people that were curious, he was offering to sell it to me for $13.5k, but with all its flaws I don't think it was worth even that. He seemed like a shady character as well with contradicting stories and unusual things that set alarm bells ringing almost immediately.
On the plus side, it had brand new rotors/pads, front and back, and mechanically it was very strong (the thing hauled ***!!) The trunk was mint, and the ML audio really did sound incredible for a stock stereo. Thanks for your input guys. Back to the 2GS hunt for me....
- It had 191k miles / 306k km on the odo. 10k/16k more than he stated.
- It was a smoker's car and absolutely reeked of it.
- There were scratches on both front and rear bumpers, and the driver front fender was scraped and rusting. There were other minor paint issues that were forgiveable, considering the amount of miles.
- The backseats were ripped, there was a cig burn in the drivers seat, and the center console was missing some piece so there was a gaping hole in the front when closed, just behind the seat heater switches.
- It had almost no features I wanted (his idea of nav was the tomtom on the windshield), no parking assist, adaptive cruise, backup camera, nothing. Just ML stereo.
- It really stank like smoker's lungs.
- He had no records after all, I would have had to contact the dealership to get service history.

Hi mileage car over 10 years old? No Thanks.
While I might trust the engine block, the electronics associated with how the car performs is what concerns me. Japanese cars (vs domestic or European cars) do not insulate the wiring as well as their counterparts. That's where my concern lies. In the wiring, which is an expensive repair.

i.g.- My 96 Land Cruisers CD player and alarm, air, all windows, moon roof etc still work. my 02 BMW had all 4 window regulators replaced within 5 years. The climate control had to be replaced, the headlight caught fire, the NAV DVD reader needed servicing. I've experienced and heard of so many expensive BMW / Merc electrical nightmares. if something goes wrong on the S class when outta warranty you will cry. The early 2000 750s had many electronic issues out the gate. i hear its a much better car now but it really hurt their rep. Toyota had the brake thing a few years back but i've never had an issue w our Camry.

E39's had a lot of electrical problems also. Look at the prices. You can get a 2000 5 series for around 8-9 grand and a 2000 Gs still goes a good 2-3k above that with the same or more miles. Toyota did have a little issues with the gas peddle and the tranny in the rx and es a couple years ago. Honda also had tranny problems in the mini van and auto civic in the early 2000's but I would buy one still without a worry.

Remember the Acura CL's? Those Trannys would die between 40K n 60K. I know people that replaced them up to 3 times. Honda simply did away with the CL and introduced the TL to rinse out that bad taste in our mouths LOL

When talking high mileage everyone brings up the bigger 430/460 V8.
What is recommendation on (when) selling a 2007 GS350? I have about 62k miles on mine with another 12 months of CPO warranty. I'm not big on holding cars with high mileage (over 80k), but I planned to keep this one for as long as she'll go w/o problems. After CPO warranty is up, I figured I would get an extended warranty to last me a while (zero mechanical repair abilities).

Wow! An '06 with 180k, that's a lot of driving. My brothers '98 2GS with 180k still drives perfectly with no issues. If I was budgeted for a 2GS, but was able to buy a 3GS I'd do it as long as it runs good. Toyota (and Lexus) last forever, and this is probably more true with newer models.
I would just take it to a Toyota/Lexus dealership and have their mechanic check it out. I would also run a CarFox (CarFax).

I hope your right. But I doubt Toyota willl ever out design the engines of the 90s. Those 94 Camrys corollas tacoma's and land cruisers are still running with well over 200,000 on the clock. y 96 Land cruiser is a prime example. Its has 283,000 miles on it and mostly orig parts belts and hoses. Check engine light has been on for the past 3 years but its still going strong
