Default VAIS emulation mode?

I'm waiting for my VML to come and have been reading up on the install. There are 3 types of emulation mode that are available. How do you know which one to use? There's MD Changer, CD Changer, and CD-MP3 Modes. I have an '08 GS350 w/Nav and non ML. What is the difference between the 3 modes?

for 08 gs350, you need mp3 emulation.

CD and MD are for older generation of navigation systems, depending on the setup. they are somewhat more similar. for gen5 navigation system, there is the capability to have extended information display, folders, files, etc.... and you will need mp3 emulation in order to enable all that

so use mp3 emulation otherwise you lose all those features

rominl, I have one more question. I noticed on my older SoundlinQ SLi that it's connected to the back of the radio through the 20 pin connector. I noticed that the VML gets connected to the 12 pin connector on the back of the radio, not the 20 pin connector. What is the difference between the 12 pin and the 20 pin connectors?

for the sli/sl2i/sl2vi and gen5 system, you can use either the 20-pin or the 12-pin, they both work just fine. on older system (gen3/4) lexus, it has to be the 20-pin. on toyota, i think it's been always the 12-pin (there is no 20-pin connector toyota). for all the newer vaistech system for lexus (vml, ml+), they are all using the 12-pin already.

but on the technical side like what is the exact difference, that i don't know. but for example on gen5 system (my gs350), i have tried both the 20-pin and the 12-pin, results are exactly the same

I have an IDE laptop HDD laying around. If I want to install it in the VML, do I need a ribbon cable, or are they standard?
