Default brakes and rotors

want to replace brakes and rotors on my 2008 gs350. i get a skreech only when i back up, and looking at the rotors, they are worn down about 1cm under the lip. is that too low? the pads are still good. looking to switch to akebono pads. the brake dust is killing me. you would think i have black rims. also, i've been reading the posts about slotted, cross drilled or regular rotors. im thinking slotted for the looks. are there any not so expensive slotted or regular rotor, but a good quality one?

I recently changed out my front rotors and pads b/c I was having a REALLY bad screech. I've done quite a bit of research here and I decided to get the Centric rotors and Akebono pads. It's perfect now...no noise at all. I also thought about getting slotted or drilled rotors but I decided to keep it simple and easy. My opinion...stick with blank rotors

I just ordered some stoptech drilled and slotted rotors and I ordered the OEM pads as I was gonna go with akebono but they make them for Lexus so thought I would stick with OEM.

Yea saw no point in getting the akebono if they make the Lexus brake pads aside from price didnt really care, so went with the Lexus pads.

The only way to tell if the rotors are too thin is to use a micrometer to measure them.

I just recently installed new Ebc red stuff brake pads and I love them! But they skreech quite bad with my old oem rotors..... I did machined the rotor before installing the pad but still have the noise. The tech told me ebc red stuff have harder compound than oem rotors and will always make the noise. Probably it's time to have new rotors?? What do you guys say?

i always change pads & rotors at the same time, doesnt matter the condition of it when i replaced it. while you there, might as well change the rotors as well.

Would it matter if I change to new rotor without changing the old pads?(even though they are only about 1000mi old)
I know we have to machine the rotors if only change the pads. How about the pads? Anything need to know if only change the rotors?

One more question, was that tech telling me the truth that Red stuff pads have harder compound than the oem rotors? Or he was just trying to sell me new rotors? And is that the reason why my brake is makin such a big noise?
