Stale smell from vents...?
#16
Thanks for the tips guys.... I am starting to get even more annoyed by it now.... Today, I had my AC completely off and it was letting fresh air in. I could smell the stale smell for quite some time running it this way.... I don't even understand what the point of the cabin filter is if its not going to filter smell out! My only guess is we are having some funky wheather in the midwest this year (back and forth hot and cold) and it has been rainy for a few days so I guess that is making it get nasty in the condenser.... What a pain in the ***!

be sure to set your HVAC to fresh (not recirc) before cutting the car off. This will allow any moisture in the system to vent and evaporate from the system rather than staying trapped and allowing bacteria to breed. If it's tood bad, I've done the "lysol into the intake" (usually on the pass side just under the wiper) on other cars and after a few treatments and leaving the HVAC in Fresh, it goes away.

what i learned from a toyota service guy, was a trick that he used on his truck because it got ranky too!
He told me to keep the car off recirc when I get home, meaning turn off recirc and let fresh air in, give it a week or two and the rank smell will go away
