Default disconnect the battery for 2 days, then the battery light was ON

just installed bags, we had to disconnect the battery for 2 days, then after finished the installation put everything back and drove around the block was fine, no light at all. then all of sudden the battery light was ON for like 20 min and smelled something funny from the engine.

but now the battery light was off and that smell is gone. weird. what could it be? i searched, people said alternator. or could it be because the battery was disconnected for 2 days? the need more time time re-charge ??

thx!

get your battery load tested and alternator checked out. It's either bad battery, bad alternator regulator, and last would be bad diode from the alternator. Also make sure you got tight connections on the battery cables.

^^^ how can i check alternator part? i actually just replaced the battery few months ago, and we tested the battery seems fine (12.5 volts).

edit : nvm, just googled it and figure out how to check alternator. one of them is start the engine and take out positive cable from the battery? if it still runnng, then the laternator still good? is tht make sense?

^ That procedure was back in the old days where they didn't have sophisticated computers. With modern cars, if you do that, you got a high risk of damaging the computers. Since you already changed your battery I'm assuming its a known good battery. What is your charging voltage with the car on? To check if your alternator have a bad diode, set ur meter to AC voltage and tell me what your reading.

If you can find a garage with the higher end Midtronics battery testing units, it'll be able to see if the battery, alternator, and diode are all in fine fettle.
Shouldn't take more than 10-15 mins, and hopefully charged pro-rata or as a goodwill.
