I ended up getting the usual P0500 vsc trac check engine combo on my dash. I have a 2006 GS430 with 38000 miles. I ended up taking the vehicle to Lexus after replacing speed sensors to make sure they wouldnt tell me it was that. Replaced both just in case. The ended up replacing ECM after finding sensors were good & wires had no shorts. After replacing ECM the said code came back up p0500. It won't throw the code untill I hit 2500 rpm's. I asked them about the trans assembly they said the ECM & engine & trans should show the same reading. The Ecm & engine are with the trans reading different & they dont know why. I asked about replacement they said if they did they'd still get the same reading...Does anyone have any answers or experience with this? It would be greatly appreciated it...I MISS MY GS...Thanks

omg.... i remember I had this similar problem that I solved by myself. when it comes up I will edit this post. Good luck however!
Ohh, i remember now, mine's was a gas cap issue. Have you tried replacing that? If not give it a go, and reset your battery. See if that fixes it...

I disconnected the battery to reset it...tripped code after I hit 2500 rpms I dont know if that means anything. Wouldnt it set an additonal code if it were the gas cap. Did yours set any? If so what code.

Title: A960E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: ELECTRONIC CONTROLLED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM: P0500: Vehicle Speed Sensor "A" (2006 GS300)
DTC
P0500
Vehicle Speed Sensor "A"
DESCRIPTION
The speed sensor SP2 detects the rotation speed of the transmission output shaft and sends signals to the ECM. The ECM determines the vehicle speed based on these signals. An AC voltage is generated in the speed sensor SP2 coil as the parking gear mounted on the rear planetary gear assembly rotates, and this voltage is sent to the ECM. The parking gear on the rear planetary gear is used as the timing rotor for this sensor.
The gear shift point and lock-up timing are controlled by the ECM based on the signals from this vehicle speed sensor and the throttle position sensor signal.

DTC No.
DTC Detection Condition
Trouble Area
P0500
No speed sensor signal to ECM under following conditions: (1-trip detection logic)
(a) Park/neutral position switch is OFF
(b) Vehicle is being driven
•Open or short in speed sensor (SP2) circuit
•Speed sensor (SP2)
•Automatic transmission assembly
•ECM
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
The output speed sensor SP2 monitors the output shaft speed. The ECM controls the gearshift point and the lock up timing based on the signals from the output speed sensor SP2 and throttle position sensor.
If the ECM detects no signal from the output shaft speed sensor SP2 even while the vehicle is moving, it will conclude that is a malfunction of the output speed sensor SP2. The ECM will illuminate the MIL and set a DTC.

I didn't check for any codes, i went straight ot lexus and they replaced the gas cap so i'm sorry I couldn't help, but if it WAS the gas cap, and the gas cap was replaced, your car should reset the CEL after a few drives. So in your case I apologize, but I was wrong. I might look up at the diagram up above. Have you had lexus check with a voltmeter to see if the line is accidentally disconnected from the speed sensor to the ECU or wherever the last line ends? Worth a try to make sure the wiring harness is all good.

Thanks for the replys I'm starting to think myself its the transmission itself...if the rear planetary gear which acts as rotor is wore or damaged I think it wouldn't send a signal...or a different one...Lexus tells me the dvr or whoever is suppose to call California after which point they'd get back at him n tell them how to proceed...could be full of it but who knows...I'll defintely show them the above tech sheet...hopefully it works...ill let u know thanks

I am shocked to hear a problem such as this on a low mileage 430.
Good luck and please keep us updated.

Well they said its not the above tech sheet...The tech said he called California...doesnt like to because he likes to figure things out hisself but did so. He said California told him to check the wiring on the vehicle speed sensor that has 3...1 of those is suppose to be bad & giving out improper readings...they're suppose to call me back after they pulled it in...havent heard anything since earlier I will update when I hear the news...any new ideas are welcomed...thanks

we figured that out from the beginning already GS4
The techs at lexus have tried a lot of things to fix the issue, but no avail.
john, let me know how it goes! As I said, I made the call on the wiring harness on the trans so hopefully they'll just stop checking and replace it to see if that remidies the problem.
P.S. I've been on my 06' GS430 for 2-3 years now, my only super serious problem was the rear roof creaking (in which lexus made me PAY for it =\ ). So there shouldn't be any issues with 3GS's, especially low mileage, i say this car just stumped upon a freak accident
