As you said, the LS version ran with 380 bhp, maybe to offset the weight increase, or just because it was the halo model?

I'm struggling with the same choice! Most people will tell you the 460 is superior, in a way it is: better MPG, no timing belt change at 90k, newer, cpo, etc...
But it is unmistakable to me, that the 430 drives better, feels and sounds more aggressive than the newer 460, and after testing both cars numerous times I came to the conclusion that the difference is in the transmission, the six speed gives you a better feel than the eight speed!!! To me the gs 460 drives more like an LS 460!
So to me I prefer the gs 430 (with my favorite colors) anyday over the gs 460, that being said I will not hesitate for a second to buy a 460 if I don't find a clean 430 with low miles!!
My two cents

Hey guys. I had forgotten about this thread. I did buy an 06 GS430 in early April, and I couldn't be more happy (aside from the ML stereo, which I feel is a little weak, although lately I've been okay with it).
The car was the color I wanted (mercury/black), one-owner, titled in April of 2005, 50k miles (so about 7k miles a year) and Lexus CPO for 3 years/up to 100,000 miles. I am very meticulous about my car, and this car was perfect. Not a scratch on it, which was almost a little weird, because with 50k miles, it was definitely driven, but my guess is that it was stored during the winter.
Navcom hit the nail on the head. I tried to describe it earlier in this thread, but I think he nailed it. The GS460 drives more like an LS460 than a GS (which is not necessarily a bad thing, depending on what you're looking for). There are definitely differences between the two cars, including 6 versus 8 speed transmission, a better nav screen on the 460, bigger mirrors on teh 460 with turn signal indicators, and other differences), but for my purposes, the 430 was perfect and thousands less than the 460. The 460 that I was comparing the 430 to at the beginning of the thread was not certified and was a little scratchy and chippy. Most CPO 460's around here (to the extent there are any) seem to be in the asking price range of $35k.
And yes, navcom, I did negotiate a much better price on the "new" car and got a very good price on my trade. To cap it off, Lexus has CPO financing at 1.9% for 60 months, so it was kind of a no-brainer.

Good for you e-man! You made a good choice!! I'm still looking for my 06-07 GS 430!!
But I'm comfortable knowing in case I can't find a clean one, I will be very happy to own a 08-10 GS 460!!!

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. Thought I'd offer my perspective since I was in a similar dilemma. For the vehicles that I drove ( 2 430's and 3 460's), the 430s always felt more sluggish. Comfort-wise, I felt that the 460 was more quiet and had a more solid feel. I went the other way and paid about 3k more to get the 460, but my wife and are happy because we got the color combo we wanted, Starfire Pearl w/ beige interior.

For $3,000, you should definitely go for the newer car. The price difference I was seeing for Lexus certified cars was much greater than that (in the Chicago area). Most dealers around here (at least as of a few months ago) were asking in the $35k on up range for 08+ GS460s. There was one non-certified GS460 that I saw for $28k-$29k, but that car was pretty beat up with all kinds of chips, scratches , curb rash, etc. Many of the 430s were in the $27k price range, but a few good certified ones were in the $25k price range. Part of the problem is that there are so few of these cars out there to begin with, it's hard to find a good one, and when you do, it's hard to negotiate on it because there are usually several other interested buyers. Again, just talking about the Chicago market, but that's been my experience.
