I'm wondering when I should get the spark plugs change.
I have 08 GS350 with 57k.

 

I think acording to the manual they go like 80 K miles.
However I like to change them early and did at 30 K miles.
They still looked great and I am sure would last twice as long.

I just do not like to not at least remove them and put a drop of anti sieze on the threads for future removal. Since I was planning a 6000 mile trip I just changed them.

60K miles change-over point.
Make sure to replace with platinum ones for the same extended service life.

 

Did u let the dealership to do it or you changed by yourself? And how much they charged?

Dealer price is around $500 just for labor. I believe its recommended replacement at 60k for a GS350

 

I checked with the dealership this weekend. They offerred me $499 for the whole thing.
Do you know any beter price?

 

this is just laughable. for spark plugs for Christ sake. For my wife's Rx, it is recommended to remove the intake and they wanted $750.

I plan to do my GS at 100k - I will do a complete write-up with pics for everyone.

I would check at Toyota or another mechanic who specializes in lexus, acura, etc.

 

I agree, it's really not hard, especially the passenger side. The driver's side is a little tighter but nothing too crazy.

I have checked with local mechanic shop certified and no need to change out the spark plugs till 90k. Buy the spark plugs from Sewell and have your local shop change it out for less than $100 labor. Everything should cost you no more than $200. Dealership is a rip off

 

If you follow the scheduled maintenance, then they should be changed at 60 K Miles (96 K km). I ordered mine at Sewell for $77.70 and had a local Lexus certified garage (Bullock City) changed them out for $90.00. The Toyota dealership in my area quoted $185.00 and Lexus dealer at $500.00 (what a rip off!).

 

Nowhere have I ever seen mention of anyone running platinum plugs beyond 60K.
90K is fantasy imo, as you'd be running with an ever-increasing gap, resulting in poorer spark energy, resulting in poorer combustion, which would show as poorer fuel economy and more deposits on the valves and piston crowns, and possibly oil dilution from unburnt fuel.

Now, you might be lucky with the ones fitted to eek out 70K, but equally, there's nothing to say you could be unlucky and really need them out at 50-55K - that's the nature of items that wear out.

Unless that mechanic can absolutely guarantee your plugs will still be as good at 90K as they are at 60K, I'd not be overly keen to use him for much.

 

I replaced mine when it had 58,xxx miles on it. The ones we took out look pretty good, but manual says 60k and I did it. Bought spark plugs from sewell and had a good friend replace them.

 

My GS has abt 65k miles on it. Today it's getting the plugs replaced, and brakes fluid flushed. Dealer quoted $750 for both. An independent Lexus shop quoted $500. My performance shop, the same one that did my custom exhaust, will do it for $400. In addition, he will put in racing brake fluid. He says it resists absorbing moisture, and has a higher boiling point. Im not planning to track the car ever so not really needed, but it's kinda cool to see a blue brake fluid in the reservour. Yes, i can DIY but the price is reasonable and i rather be billable at the client. He will even come by to pick up the car.
