No updates in over 4 years...
The mechanic at lexus told me to change the wire harness in the transmission pan, they can get corroded because the ac drips right on top of it I haven't Done that yet but I think its gonna work, its only $111 they have to order that part, he told me to do that before I do any solenoids because its so expensive
Kinda sad that no one cared enough to leave an update

I also would like to know the answer regarding the "wiring harness". Does anyone where that harness hooks up? Can you pull it and ring it out? Does anyone know if you have to change the solenoid to find out it isn't the solenoid? I have a 2006 GS300 with 105K miles. It shifts fine when it is driven hard but throws the P0761 code when driven in town.

Already flushed the transmission, revised the mechatronic (all solenoids), revised and changed the ecu. Most recently I changed the cable tree within the transmission but the same issues keep occuring.
Don't know if there is one solution to this problem.
Problem is that brand new ECUs are not produced any more.

GS300 Lexus Hard shifting
Please see the service bulletin from Lexus Corp about the harsh downshifting issues attached below. They are more than aware of the problem. Apparently they extended factory warranty to 80,000 miles to change the ECU at no charge, but if you over the miles they will quote you a ridiculous amount to replace the ECU. I was quoted $1,936 based on my Vin number. I truly think we were scammed into thinking the fluid in the transmission was lifetime, but all fluids breakdown over time and need to be changed. I went to the dealership and was told by the Service Manager my car has 165,000 miles on it, so the lifetime of my transmission was reached. I'll never buy another one, but if I do I'll always change the fluid at 60,000 miles like they do in Canada. Google Canada's Service for the transmission on these cars and you'll find its required to change the tranny fluid. 🙄🤫

If intention is to keep a Lexus longer, then the ATF should be treated as the limited lifespan fluid that it is.
A lot of us keep our Lexus for the long haul. Mine is at 226,000 miles and going strong.
