Someone PM'd me they were interested in buying my 3GS, but wanted the GS430 rather than the GS350.
I had thought the GS350 actually had the same horsepower as the 430, is this not true?
Are there any other benefits to the 430 over the 350?

430 is old engine tech, with cambelt needing replaced, but V-8 sound.
350 is V-6 with timing chain, and more economic but with a good bit of poke.
It's pretty much a case of swings and roundabouts or six of one, half a dozen of the other.
Probably as fuel costs and other consumable costs continue to rise, the 350 is a better option, but it'd depend on what mileage it was doing, and how long the car was being kept for.

The V8 will probably feel a lot more powerful around town. Horsepower is only one number on paper, torque is way more important to me for the kind of driving I do. That being said I don't have the V8, I'm too cheap.

I just picked up a 06 Gs430 and love it. I owned a Ls400 and then bought an IS300. I was very disappointed in the mpg of the Is300 It wasnt much better then the V8 in the LS . I love the V8 and didnt mind losing a few Mpg and getting it over the 350. I have been averaging 16.5-17mpg in the city and i dont baby it. When driving it hard i get 15mpg.

I'm also in the market for a GS430. The torque difference of about 50 lbs/ft comes in handy with only a small mpg drop.

I will have to drive my brother's 350. I have a 460 and the torque is very much appreciated. Pretty much down to personal preference. From reviews, and the 350 has adequate power for every day driving. I wanted more and the 8 speed tranny keeps the mpg in check. I just love the passing power on the highway. It's so much fun!

That makes sense on the torque.
One funny thing though, I have owned both an LS430 and a GS350, and the GS350 is much more fun to drive.
The GS350 feels faster even though the LS430 had a V8. Never drove the GS430.

Torque is under-appreciated. I chose my GS350 over a GS460 at the time because the V6 has plenty of power. But this thread reminds me of my 2000 Buick Regal GS. It had an acceptable 240 hp but 280 lbs of torque at 3200 RPM. At 3,600 lbs, you get neck snapping acceleration (while the GS350 gives you a smooth blast).

Of course your 350 felt faster. Gear ratios and suspension setups really change your perception since it controls how the car moves. An LS is meant to be set up as a luxury cruiser. So gears are taller, suspension is softer, inputs are suppose to effortless. You get the idea.

theres nothing like that pure torque that just snaps you in the seat on a take off and when that motor opens up she'll be sailing like a boat. My 430 will eat all day long!

GS450h > GS460 > GS430 > GS350 > GS300
If I was to buy another GS I would go with a V8 again for family reasons. If I didnt need the trunk the h would be my first choice. Its a great all around car that unless you drive it you won't truly respect it. I know I was shocked when I first drove one at the Lexus event in Chicago a few years back.
