Higher Mileage Demos – Your inputs please!
Hi,
This is my first post, but I have been checking this forum regularly. I find this forum very information and a great online community.
Last year, I sold my 2010 Lexus IS 250 with the manual transmission. I am looking for a GS 350 with AWD. I like the 2013 GS but I cannot justify the cost, so I am looking at some leftover 2011 models around my area. There is one close to where I live. It is a 2011 manager’s demo with nav but without Mark Levinson currently with about 12,000 miles. It has been for sale since last fall with 6000 miles. The in-service date is August 29, 2009, so the bumper-to-bumper warranty ends on August 29, 2013, but a Certified Pre-Owned warranty is added.
A big criterion for me is reliability, so the Germans are not on my list. I am a little hesitant about buying a manager’s demo because of the potential abuse, but I also understand that components are designed with safety factors.
How much PERCENT off from MSRP should I demand? (In Canada, the price for a 2011 GS350 AWD Premium is $59,150 + $1,895 Destination + Tax.)
Thank you for your inputs! I hope to be a regular in the GS forum soon!

Even as a demo, it will have been looked after by the dealer, so I'd have no worries on that end.
I don't understand the US/Canadian mentality on here, asking about prices.......it's akin to asking "how long is a piece of string?"!
The price will be what YOU alone think it's worth, and the dealer agreeing - anything else is pure conjecture, no matter how well meaning or informed the replies are.
An item's value is only ever waht anyone is prepared to pay for it.
Bottom line, do your research into what equivalent models have sold for locally, and if this has been up for sale for 6K miles (whatever that timeframe may be - weeks or months) that should put you in a position to haggle, if you can demonstrate why your price is more reflective of the age, mileage, etc.
Personally, I'd be looking for a warranty extension for peace of mind that demonstrators tend to be driven less sympathetically by staff and potential buyers/professional tyre-kickers - but it should've been put through the full battery of checks any pre-owned Lexus would've before being put out on the lot.
As I said, do your research and if you haggle smart, you should come out with a deal that will have you grinning like the proverbial Cheshire cat.
