Thought it would be a good time to bring this thread back.

I have a GS430 with a second set of GS300 wheels with Michelin alps snow tires on them that are about 9/32nds.

The tires are extremely noisy but I figured I could deal with it since the tread depth is still good. We had our first inch or two of snow last week and they were horrible!

I have Dunlop snow tires on nan other set of wheels, firestone winterforce on the second car.

I had a 04 GS430 with general Altimax on and it was much better. My father had Michelin x-ice 2 NAND they were great.

Anyone else have experience with the Michelin alps? I'm just not sure I'll make it through any real snow, and I cover a 5 state territory driving 3-5k miles a month.

 

They are a performance winter tire, so they will be more stable upon breaking etc but they wont perform as well in ice/snow as the dedicated tires like the blizzaks and x-ice series. Being from Canada we get lots of reviews etc, and right now the go-to tire is the michelin x-ice xi3. The performance benchmarks it's been setting have been similar to the old king of the hill (the nokian hakapelitta R), but they come with a 60,000km treadlife guarantee up here. On my 06 GS350 AWD i was running the Goodyear Ultragrip Ice WRT, which are also good but nowhere near the level of the x-ice xi3 that I just had put on a FWD car. If you are looking for more of a budget tire, i'd recommed the goodyears and the general altimax arctic, other than that you cant really go wrong with the new x-ice tire.

I had the General Altimax on my 2004 GS430, they were MUCH better than these Michelins.

So far 3 snow showers in and I'm all right. I think I may stick it out.
