20" rims bad for suspension/steering?
I am looking to pick up some rims in the off season. I was at a rim shop today and they guy was trying to influence me to go 18" instead of 20 . he says that I don't want to ruin my suspension and steering components on such a nice car. And that when you go 20" that is what will happen. But I had had 20" before on other vehicles and never had any issues. Any input on this?

I've been running 20's for 3 years now and I don't have issues with suspension or steering. I also have a staggered set up as well, 8.5 in front and 10 in back. Mostly for looks but I do feel better driving like that on rainy days.
The only thing you need to be mindful of is the overall tire circumference should be as close as to what the stock circumference of the tire is. I'm running just a smidgen' over spec in that regard, so yes if you go way overspec maybe it can have negative impact on steering components. You can certainly run 20's but your tire walls will need to be shallower.
You will probably have some minor rubbing too, I do a little on bumps and sharp angle turns.. I did also drop my car 1" in front and back.

Hmm.... Running 20's won't indeed ruin your driving experience per say, unless you're just a picky picky guy....
I've driven a 3GS, with adaptive suspension, on 20'' Vossens and it rode just fine. The car for some reason had wobble though (non-AWD) but it was his car and whatever I told him it didn't really matter to him.
I'm sure with some legit tires/balancing/etc. etc. you'll be fine though, as most people don't even complain.
Back onto subject, having bigger wheels does indeed wear out your suspension parts faster. It's just a simple matter of replacing the simple stuff sooner than the usual intervals. Then again there are precautions, like aftermarket ball joints, coilovers, REALLY good tires (your tire setup DOES contribute to a better longevity of your suspension, as with good tires the bounce of the car is better vs cheap tires where u feel everything on the road)... etc. etc.
Either way, people have gone 20's on their cars here, some 22's, and who knows??? Maybe even more! Without a complaint in the world.

im sorry i love my gs but as far as staggered being better for performance as far as traction. gs's are slooow as hell its just a nice luxury vehicle that looks sexy as hell on staggered wheels..
