Ok so I am looking to sell my 1999 GS 300, but I can't decide between a 2008 GS350 or a 2006–7
IS 350. I live in Colorado and the GS is AWD and clearly in better favor, but I saw the IS
Might be more of a performance car, which I want. I love my current car to death, I know it inside and out so I know what a GS can do. I wanted everyone's opinion on which would be a better performance car and which one I should get. Please help!!!

Well the thing I like about the IS 350 is it has the sequential paddle shifters that I love. Is the little manual shifting in the GS fun to screw around with?

The paddle shifters on the IS are phony. They are top gear limiters, not true shifters. Read up about it on the IS forums. You can actually do the exact same thing with the GS shifter. I owned an IS350 before picking up my current GS350. If you are looking for performance, hands down the IS is the way to go. However, the GS is no slouch and is a step up on the luxury scale. If you plan on riding with more than one passenger frequently, I'd say the GS is it. If it's mostly you and maybe one other passenger, get the IS. Either way, get a dedicated set of winter tires and you'll be just fine with RWD on either one.

ALSO just picked up an '09 GS350 AWD after many years in an '03 GS300 (kept in family - sold to daughter who just got her realtor's license and needed a classy ride to show houses in)
.......lotsa changes in '09 I think, so I'd recommend it if you can swing it financially. Ours is loaded, Nav, etc. and I got it for $27,600 with 45k miles still under factory warranty, and a 2 yr. Lexus extended warranty on top of that.
Oh, our '03 had the paddle shifters (actually, buttons on front and back of steering wheel), and the '09 has the manual shift control on the shift **** - which I personally prefer.....
If you want performance, do what I am going to do and many others have done: add the F-Sport sway bars.....
see thread on that on the 3rd Gen GS page.....

Agree with all posters on this. Do some hw on the GS in terms of rattles and can shaft fix. You will be in some cold weather which means you have a high probability of facing dash rattles. Get these two addressed if you move on the GS.
IS was nimbler but too small for my needs. The GS powerplant is strong. As BigBlack said, give them both a test drive....and dont forget to sit in the rear of both (if that is at all important to you).
