Yes, they can be taken apart. Option one is heat gun and patience, Option two, that I recommend, is bake them in the oven at 200°F for 7-10 minutes and the butyl rubber glue will become soft and you can pry the lens apart from the housing.
Work quickly but carefully from one corner and work your way around. Be careful not to break the tabs. I've used both methods, however option two is more forgiving as the heat gun temp is variable and can melt the housing/lens if you concentrate in one area.
After you're done customizing, align the lens back to the housing along with the tabs, and repeat baking procedure to reseal the butyl rubber. If you decide to clean out the channels and use new butyl, you can purchase more at TheRetrofitSource.com, or you can reuse existing adhesive.
